Speaking on his unCovering the Birds podcast, Eagles writer Jeff McLane said Dallas Goedert is “by no means a slam dunk to return to Philly for an eighth season.”
This belief stems from an unnamed source who said as much to McLane, after McLane looked to confirm similar comments from an anonymous agent. Goedert is in the final year of his deal and is set to be a free agent heading into 2026. Any decision to release Goedert, however, would be an odd one, as the only cap savings, as far as 2025 is concerned, would come with a post-June 1 cut that could net them $4.054 million in savings but also carries a dead cap hit over $7.7 million. Goedert has struggled to stay healthy in recent years, but is among the top tight ends in the league when healthy. With few good options available via trade or free agency, the Eagles could be better off letting Goedert play out the final year of his deal if they can afford it.
