The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports the Saints are “really, really high” on Spencer Rattler’s potential following his performance in training camp and the preseason.
In three preseason outings, Rattler threw for 202 yards and one touchdown while completing 52.6 percent of his passes, but his adjusted completion percentage of 69.7 factors out the three drops his receivers had. Rattler also ran seven times for 26 yards and another score. The rookie fifth-rounder could be challenging Derek Carr for snaps at some point in the season, but Carr remains entrenched as the starter for the time being. Under contract through the 2026 season, the Saints have every incentive to see things through with Carr, but any struggles through the midway point of the season could have Dennis Allen and company looking in Rattler’s direction.
