NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Commanders placed DT Johnny Newton on the non-football injury (NFI) list following offseason foot surgery.
Newton suffered a partial Jones fracture in college and successfully underwent surgery to repair the injury in May. He can be removed from the NFI list at any time during training camp and the preseason but must remain sidelined for at least four games if he remains on the list when the regular season officially begins.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #9

Chargers activated WR DJ Chark from injured reserve.
The veteran wide receiver will make his season debut for the Chargers in Week 9 against the Browns. The team also gets back wide receiver Quentin Johnston and tight end Hayden Hurst, making Week 9 the healthiest their pass-catching corps has been since the start of the season.
  • SEA Tackle #74
Seahawks activated OT George Fant from injured reserve.
The veteran injured his knee in the team’s Week 1 contest and has been held out ever since. His return comes just in time as the Seahawks look to upset the divisional rival Rams at home in Week 9 to claim control of a tight NFC West division.
  • NYG Kicker #34
Giants placed K Greg Joseph on injured reserve.
Joseph signed with the Giants in the middle of September following a quad injury sustained by Graham Gano. He will now miss the next four games, at minimum while on injured reserve, opening the door for Jude McAtamney to make his professional debut in Week 9 agains the Commanders.
  • MIN Guard #66
Vikings activated OG Dalton Risner from injured reserve.
The veteran guard will make his team debut in Week 9 and could force his way back into the starting lineup after starting 11 games in 15 appearances for the Vikings a season ago.
  • BUF Linebacker #40
Bills activated LB Von Miller from suspension.
Miller was suspended at the beginning of October for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, missing Week 5 through Week 8. He will likely immediately return to a situational pass rush role for a Bills team surging up the AFC leaderboard.
  • BAL Running Back #34
Ravens ruled out RB Keaton Mitchell for Week 9 against the Broncos.
Mitchell is now 10 days into his 21-day practice window as he attempts to make his season debut after suffering a devastating knee injury late in 2023. He’ll have to wait another week after the team failed to activate him from the physically unable to perform list.
  • NO Running Back #25
Saints placed RB Kendre Miller and WR Bub Means on injured reserve.
The Saints suddenly find themselves in a bind at running back after Miller’s move to injured reserve and backup running back Jamaal Williams’ status as doubtful for Week 9. The team is left with only Alvin Kamara and fullback Adam Prentice as healthy backs on the active roster, potentially opening up additional backfield snaps for queen chess piece Taysom Hill against the Panthers. Means’ absence likely thrusts recent acquisition Marquez Valdes-Scantling into meaningful snaps on the perimeter.
  • TB Wide Receiver #13
Buccaneers ruled out WR Mike Evans (hamstring) for Week 9 against the Chiefs.
This was always thought to be the outcome after Evans suffered a significant hamstring injury in Week 7, likely enough to hold him out through the team’s Week 11 bye. Fellow wide receivers Jalen McMillan and Sterling Shepard are listed as questionable, potentially setting up another week of featured usage for tight end Cade Otton against the Chiefs.
  • FA Defensive Tackle #74
    Bengals released DT Lawrence Guy.
Guy was signed to the active roster in Cincinnati in mid-September, playing 91 defensive snaps across four appearances for the Bengals. The 15-year NFL veteran could be on his way out of the league after playing the previous seven seasons with the Patriots.
  • TB Running Back #7
Buccaneers RB Bucky Irving (toe) is questionable for Week 9 against the Chiefs.
Irving has been managing a toe injury for the previous few weeks, ultimately playing in Week 8 after being listed as questionable for that contest as well. Head coach Todd Bowles recently stated that the toe injury is likely something Irving will be forced to deal with the remainder of the season, which is likely to lead to numerous questionable tags the rest of the way. Also listed as questionable are safety Antoine Winfield Jr. and wide receivers Jalen McMillan and Sterling Shepard.
