  • IND Running Back #28
Jonathan Taylor rushed 30 times for 188 yards and one touchdown in the Colts’ Week 18 loss to the Texans.
A tumultuous 2023 season comes to an end for Taylor, who missed the first four weeks of the season due to a contract dispute and later missed another three games with a thumb injury. Despite the time away, Taylor still managed to rush 169 times for 741 yards and seven touchdowns on the season and added another 153 yards through the air. The soon-to-be 25-year-old back is now under contract through 2026 and should enter 2024 with his eyes on playing a full season. He’ll be on the RB1 in an offense that should continue to ascend with Anthony Richardson also set to return next season.
  • TEN Defensive Tackle #98
Titans DT Jeffery Simmons suffered a Tommy John ligament injury prior to Week 4.
Simmons suffered the injury to his left elbow and missed the Titans’ Week 4 win over the Dolphins. He did not need surgery, but needed to wear a brace and will get a Week 5 bye to recover. Simmons has a 12-tackle season through three games and aims to return for Week 6.
  • NYJ Wide Receiver #5
In appearance on ESPN New York radio’s “Bart and Hahn” show, Jets WR Garrett Wilson said, “my route tree hasn’t been what it has been the last two years.”
Wilson discussed the Jets unit as a whole and his role specifically, adding “I see a lot of teams mix it up and stuff like that. I don’t think we do that. I think we know our identity.” His comments indicate Jets OC Nathaniel Hackett’s game plan has Wilson running a different route tree than his last two seasons, while the offense is not changing much weekly. The Jets’ current offensive identity has seen Wilson tally 60 or fewer receiving yards in each game this season. With Aaron Rodgers leading a group sitting at 2-2 and Davante Adams a potential trade target, Wilson may continue to sit by the wayside. He has WR2 fantasy value until a shake-up is seen.
  • LV Wide Receiver #17
Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz reports the Jets are one of Raiders WR Davante Adams’ preferred destinations in a potential trade.
Adams has been reported to prefer a trade and Schultz now reports he has been “considering a trade request out of Las Vegas for weeks.” His contract makes a deal possible and with the Raiders not contending any time soon, a trade could be on the horizon. Adams also reportedly has a list of preferred destinations and the Jets are one of them. The Jets notably have Adams’ former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and a reunion could be on the horizon.
  • DEN Running Back #26
Broncos signed RB Salvon Ahmed, formerly of the Dolphins, to their practice squad.
The Broncos added Ahmed after Tyler Badie went down in Sunday’s win over the Jets. Playing four seasons with the Dolphins, Ahmed has 163 carries for 593 yards and five touchdowns, adding 40 catches for 274 yards and a score. He will be depth for the Broncos, who have not found much consistent production from their running back room this season.
  • Tight End #83
Giants released TE Lawrence Cager from the practice squad with an injury settlement.
The 27-year-old Cager went undrafted in 2020 and bounced around the Jets, Browns, and Giants throughout his NFL career. In his most recent stint with the Giants, he was signed to a one-year deal in the offseason, waived, then re-signed to the practice squad. Cager is now let go from the team’s practice squad with an injury settlement after competing for a tight end spot in the offseason.
  • WAS Running Back #30
Austin Ekeler (concussion) told a Washington radio show that he is “tracking towards being able to play” in Washington’s Week 5 game against the Browns.
It sounds like Ekeler has worked his way through most of the concussion protocol. It was a fun random week for Jeremy McNichols, but Ekeler could assume the secondary work behind Brian Robinson again in Week 5.
  • CAR Cornerback #3
Panthers sign CB Caleb Farley to their practice squad.
The Panthers will take a shot at rehabilitating the tools that made Farley a first-round pick in 2021 while managing the long-term back injury that has plagued him for most of his NFL career. The Panthers have almost nothing in the cupboard at cornerback beyond Jaycee Horn, so it makes sense to take a low-risk stab on a player who is still just 25.
  • FA Kicker #37
Free agent K Chad Ryland visited the Packers on Tuesday.
Ditto Lucas Havrisik. Brayden Narveson has missed four of 13 field-goal attempts this year for the Packers, including the league’s only sub-40 yard miss through four weeks. The Packers may be ready to make a change.
  • MIA Linebacker #15
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said LB Jaelan Phillips (knee) will not play in Week 5’s game against the Patriots.
The club is still evaluating how much time Phillips will need to miss, but it’s not surprising that he won’t be up for Week 5 after Miami quickly ruled him out on Monday night. Miami’s Week 6 bye will give them a little more time to figure out the situation. It’s possible he winds up on injured reserve.
  • MIA Quarterback #18
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Tyler Huntley will start for the Dolphins in Week 5 against the Patriots.
We simply can’t trust any of Miami’s once-reliable fantasy weapons until we see better at quarterback, and Huntley was ghastly last week. McDaniel was quoted as saying: “after reviewing the tape, there’s reason for guys to be excited about [Huntley] ... There were some things to build upon, and we’re excited to do that tomorrow.” It’s possible that another week of practice in the system will help Huntley play better than he did on Monday night. It’s hard to believe he’ll be better enough to do more than make Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Devon Achane FLEX options against the Patriots.
