Stick led just three field goal drives on a night the Chargers were without Justin Herbert, Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Joshua Palmer. The loss drops the Chargers to 5-11 as they limp towards the end of the 2023 regular season, after which they will start their search for a new head coach after former head coach Brandon Staley was fired half way through his third season with the team. Stick has one more start on tap which will come at home against the Chiefs in Week 18.

It sounds like the expected organizational culture change is officially underway with Tom Brady and Pete Carroll at the helm. The Raiders reportedly tripled Kelly’s Ohio State salary to secure his services. It will be interesting to see how much money ownership will be willing to throw at the position coaches as Brady and Carroll attempt to make their mark.

Pete Carroll brings aboard his former Pac-10 and NFC West nemesis to coordinate the Raiders’ offense. Carroll and Kelly coached against each other in the college ranks from 2007-2009, while Carroll served as USC’s head coach and Kelly operated as Oregon’s OC (2007-2008) and head coach (2009). The two briefly coached against each other once again, during Kelly’s 2016 season serving as the 49ers’ head coach while Carroll was with the Seahawks. Kelly returned to the college ranks after a 2-14 season in the NFC West.

Though Turner and Jets OC Tanner Engstrand are just 42 years old, the new coaching duo combines for an impressive understudy resume. Turner’s resume boasts names like Ron Rivera, his father Norv Turner and Jim Harbaugh. Engstrand has likewise studied under Harbaugh as well, and most recently helped new Bears head coach Ben Johnson produce a highly efficient Lions passing attack over the last two seasons. Turner and Engstrand make for a formidable pairing.

Leonard interviewed for the Raiders defensive coordinator vacancy last week before Pete Carroll ultimately decided to retain defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. This will be Leonard’s third season in the DL coach role. The Raiders’ defensive line totaled 66.0 NFL sacks over the last two regular seasons, ranking just 21st in the NFL.

The Jets wanted to interview Blough for their QB coach opening, but the Commanders opted to block the move at this time. Blough is now expected to remain in Washington for the 2025 season barring any unforeseen developments.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was the first to report the lateral move. London served in the same role for the Seahawks last season and was previously the quarterbacks coach for the Falcons (2021-2022) and the Titans (2023). With the Jets likely to be in the market for a new quarterback this offseason, London’s experience could prove valuable in developing a young signal-caller.

The Jaguars and head coach Liam Coen have already landed their defensive coordinator, so it’s possible this is some kind of positional coach role. Rivera has had multiple interviews this offseason, as he reportedly spoke with the Jets, Bears, and Raiders regarding their head coaching vacancies. After missing out on those jobs, the former Commanders’ head coach may have to settle a coach or coordinator role if he hopes to find his way back to the sidelines in 2025.

Scheelhaase interviewed with the Jaguars on Wednesday. Wilson added that “multiple NFL sources” believe the Jaguars will hire Scheelhaase in the coming days. The 34-year-old offensive assistant/passing game specialist last served as an offensive coordinator for Iowa State during the 2023 season. That season, his offense ranked 72nd in the nation in points per game (26.2) and 81st in yards per game (364.9). After spending six seasons at Iowa State, Scheelhaase joined the Rams last offseason but could again be on the move in the coming days with the Jaguars reportedly closing in on an offer.

Wilson has already expressed interest in returning to the Steelers next season. Despite him staying “focused” on the team, the fact still remains that the 36-year-old quarterback is set to be a free agent this offseason and is anything but a lock to return to the team. Wilson threw for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions in his first season with the Steelers. He helped lead them to the postseason for the fourth time in five seasons, but the Steelers also ended the year on a five-game losing streak. Wilson has been rumored as a likely stopgap option for the Raiders at quarterback now that Pete Carroll is in town, but we’re still months away from seeing any rumors come to fruition. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Steelers did find themselves in a small bidding war with another team or two for Wilson’s services.

Bieniemy joins Ben Johnson’s staff in Chicago amidst a complete retool of the coaching ranks. He coached for the UCLA Bruins in 2024 after a one-year stint as the offensive coordinator for the Commanders and a five-year stint with the Chiefs during the early portion of Patrick Mahomes’ career. The hiring appears to be a leap of faith by the Bears after Bieniemy was fired after just one season in each of his previous two positions across multiple levels, with Bieniemy now looking to reestablish a coaching presence in the NFL.
