The Las Vegas Journal-Review’s Vincent Bosigno reports the Raiders are “leaning toward” starting QB Aidan O’Connell in Week 9 against the Giants.
The Raiders, fresh off firing head coach Josh McDaniels, could give the rookie a shot after Jimmy Garoppolo’s unsightly performance on Monday night against the Lions. McDaniels chose fellow ex-Patriot Brian Hoyer to start over O’Connell in Week 7 against the Bears — a humiliating loss to undrafted free agent QB Tyson Bagent. In O’Connell’s lone start in Week 4, he completed 24 of 39 passes for 238 yards and an interception. It’s hard to imagine O’Connell being worse than Garoppolo, but anything is possible with the Raiders in another lost season.
