The Athletic’s Dianna Russini said “All signs appear to be pointing to the Titans taking QB Cam Ward with the No. 1 pick” in this month’s draft.
Speaking on her Scoop City podcast, Russini said, “I haven’t found anyone in football right now that said to me, ‘Oh, be careful, they may be just doing all this to see if (the Giants) will come up and make some historic trade to get up there.’” She also mentions the team’s decision to cancel its private workout with Shedeur Sanders last week as another sign that points to Ward being selected by the Titans with the 1.01 while adding “the only way” the team parts with the top pick is if a historic trade comes across the table. This year’s quarterback class doesn’t carry the same hype as the 2024 class, but it goes without saying that the Titans need to find an upgrade over Will Levis, who tied for a league-high 18 turnovers last season despite playing in only 12 games. Fellow leaders Kirk Cousins and Baker Mayfield played in 14 and 17 games, respectively. Ward finished fourth in Heisman voting in his lone season at Miami last year, throwing for 4,313-39-7 and completing 67.2 percent of his passes. If a quarterback does go at the 1.01, he is a near lock to be the name we hear called on Day 1 of the draft.
