  • FA Defensive Back #30
Chiefs declared CB DeAndre Baker, OT Price Tega Wanogho, OT Mike Remmers, TE Dan Brown, and DT Khalen Saunders inactive for Week 9 against the Packers.
Baker is once again a healthy scratch for the Chiefs, who head into Week 9 as one of the NFL’s healthiest teams.

  • ARI Quarterback #1
Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said Kyler Murray is “leaps and bounds” ahead of where he was during the 2023 season.
Murray last season returned from a 2022 ACL tear in Week 10 and threw ten touchdowns to five interceptions over eight games, posting one of the lowest adjusted yards per attempt of his NFL career. “I think from a mental and physical standpoint, right now where he’s at, to even when he got back last year or even where he finished last year, I think he’s leaps and bounds ahead,” Gannon said during a Tuesday interview. Another year removed from his knee injury, the mobile Murray could be more inclined to get back to his pre-injury rushing in 2024.
  • BUF Quarterback #13
Bills signed QB Anthony Brown, formerly of the Raiders.
Brown is the latest quarterback to join the Bills after the team lost backups Shane Buechele (neck) and Mitch Trubisky (knee) to injury. Trubisky is only expected to miss a few weeks, but while he’s out, Brown and Ben DiNucci will presumably compete for the Bills’ QB2 job. Brown was with the Raiders earlier this offseason and completed 1-of-3 passes for 24 yards in his only preseason contest while adding another five carries for 13 yards. Whether it’s Brown or DiNucci who wins the QB2 job, it’s safe to say the Bills hope neither has to sniff the field this season.
  • BAL Tight End #89
Ravens HC John Harbaugh said Mark Andrews is missing practice with a “very minor thing.”
“We’re not missing with him right now,” Harbaugh said on Monday, adding, “Don’t worry about Mark. He’s going to be fine.” Andrews was involved in a serious car accident last Wednesday and hasn’t practiced since. He’s missed exactly three practices since the injury, but it doesn’t sound like there’s much to worry about at this time. Unless the team reports otherwise, we’d expect Andrews to be active for the Ravens’ Week 1 opener against the Chiefs.
  • HOU Safety #20
Texans signed S Jimmie Ward to a one-year contract extension.
Per KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson, the Texans are giving $5.25 million in new money and $8.75 million in guaranteed cash over the next two years. He is now under contract through 2025. The veteran safety totaled 50 tackles and one interception last season and was one of the players who followed DeMeco Ryans from the 49ers to the Texans. Ward started all 10 games he appeared in, and provides a valuable presence as a veteran entering his 11th season as a pro.
  • FA Running Back #26
    Dolphins released RB Salvon Ahmed.
Ahmed caught on with the Dolphins as an undrafted rookie during the 2020 season. The former Washington Husky rushed 75 times for 319 yards and three touchdowns in his rookie season, which included a 23-122-1 performance in Week 15 against the Patriots. Since then, Ahmed has fought to stick around on Miami’s roster. Over the last two seasons, he’s handled 88 carries, taking them for 274 yards and two scores while contributing primarily on special teams. At 25 years old, Ahmed should have no trouble catching on with another team, even if it’s as a camp body over the next few weeks. In addition to Ahmed, the Dolphins also placed wide receiver Willie Snead on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury.
  • BUF Quarterback #11
Bills HC Sean McDermott said Mitch Trubisky will miss multiple weeks with a knee injury.
The preseason has been unkind to the Bills, as several key players have been injured. While the Bills hope Trubisky won’t have to see the field in too many contests, his absence undoubtedly hurts their quarterback depth behind Josh Allen. The Bills brought on Ben DiNucci last week after losing Shane Buechele to injured reserve and may now be looking at DiNucci opening the season as their QB2. While we don’t know how long Trubisky is expected to be out, it goes without saying that an injury to Allen would make for a massive downgrade to all fantasy assets who are relying on the Bills’ quarterback play.
  • LAC Quarterback #10
Justin Herbert (foot) returned to practice on Monday.
Things appeared to be trending in this direction after the Chargers released quarterback Max Duggan earlier in the day. After shedding his walking boot late last week, Herbert was spotted throwing in warmups and could be nearing a full return to action. Back on August 1, the Chargers said Herbert would be week-to-week with a plantar fascia injury he suffered in camp before putting him through a gradual ramp-up period as the season approaches. On the surface, it would appear everything is on track for Herbert to be ready by Week 1, but the team will probably give us more specific details in the coming days.
  • BUF Wide Receiver #1
Bills HC Sean McDermott said Curtis Samuel is week-to-week with turf toe.
McDermott didn’t say it, but it’s fair to assume this puts Samuel’s Week 1 availability in question. With roughly three weeks to go until the start of the season, Samuel has some time to get right before the season opener, but we’ve seen these injuries sideline players for extended periods of time. Samuel signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the Bills earlier this offseason, reuniting him with offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who he played under in Carolina. He’s one of two receivers who were brought in earlier this offseason after the team traded away Stefon Diggs and lost Gabe Davis in free agency. Samuel’s injury is the second to a Bills receiver this week, as the team will also be without Marquez Valdes-Scantling for a few weeks as he works through a neck injury suffered in last week’s preseason game.
  • WAS Linebacker #58
Commanders HC Dan Quinn said LB Jordan Magee (MCL) will miss some time after undergoing knee surgery.
Quinn didn’t provide a timeline for Magee’s return but said it is not a season-ending injury for the rookie linebacker. The Commanders selected Magee with the No. 129 overall pick in this year’s draft. The former Temple linebacker is expected to serve as added depth behind Bobby Wagner and totaled 80 tackles, 14 TFLs, and 3.5 sacks in his final season with the Owls.
  • CIN Wide Receiver #1
Ja’Marr Chase was present at Bengals practice on Monday.
Chase was not present at practice last week, which was a change from the hold-in approach he had taken up to that point. Head coach Zac Taylor declined to comment on whether Chase’s absence last week was excused or unexcused, as he remains relatively mum on the star receiver’s current situation. Speaking with ESPN’s Adam Schefter, former Bengals receiver Chad Johnson said he believes Chase will sign a long-term extension with the Bengals later this week, but it’s hard to know how much stock we should put in that comment at this time. We won’t rule out a deal getting done in the coming days, but we also know the Bengals aren’t a team known for caving in to contract requests from their stars.
