  • FA Running Back #30
Bernard Pierce rushed 10 times for 35 yards and caught two passes for 19 yards in the Ravens’ third preseason game Thursday night.
He shared No. 2 back duties with UDFA Bobby Rainey, who looked a bit more impressive with 80 total yards and a touchdown on five touches. Pierce is a straight-ahead back lacking explosive burst, and the Ravens would likely turn to a rotation including Rainey were Ray Rice to go down. Rice doesn’t have a clear-cut handcuff in fantasy leagues. Pierce is just a low-upside, late-round flier.
  • MIA Running Back #28
Devon Achane told reporters his body held up well after receiving 29 touches in Week 2 against the Bills.
Achane came into that Thursday Night Football game highly questionable, but with Raheem Mostert (chest) unable to go, the speedy tailback received a career-high 29 touches; 22 of them on carries. Even if Mostert can go in Week 3 against the Seahawks, it seems very likely that Achane is going to receive the bulk of the carries against a Seattle defense that was shaky against the run in Week 2.
  • TB Running Back #1
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Bucs RB Rachaad White “should be good” after suffering a groin injury in Week 2.
White suffered the groin injury in the first quarter and briefly left the game. He returned a few plays later and still managed to lead the team in rush attempts at 10. White has been dreadfully inefficient again this year, averaging just under two yards per carry on 25 attempts. The groin injury could give head coach Todd Bowles another reason to get rookie running back Bucky Irving more involved. White is a volume-based RB2 heading into his Week 3 matchup with Denver.
  • NYJ EDGE #52
Jermaine Johnson tore his Achilles during Week 2 against the Titans.
Johnson confirmed the diagnosis on his X — formerly known as Twitter — page. The injury occured in the third quarter when he collided with Will Levis, and he was carted off the field. Johnson will likely miss the rest of the 2024 season, and it’s a big loss for a team that doesn’t know when — or if — Haason Reddick will return to the club.
  • NYG Kicker #9
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said K Graham Gano (hamstring) will miss a few weeks.
Gano injured his hamstring on the opening kickoff of New York’s Week 2 game against the Commanders and could not kick for the remainder of the contest. The team will likely host kicker tryouts in the coming days before their Week 3 game against the Browns.
  • CLE Running Back #20
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said RB Pierre Strong (hamstring) is considered week to week.
Strong has handled kick return duties for the Browns and some backfield pass catching work behind Jerome Ford. If he misses Week 3, Ford and D’Ontae Foreman will split the backfield workload, with Ford as the clear top option.
  • CLE Wide Receiver #18
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said WR David Bell will require hip surgery.
Bell had three early receptions against the Jaguars in Week 2 before sustaining the hip injury and being carted to the locker room. Bell’s season is likely over, leaving Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy, and Elijah Moore as the Browns’ top three wideouts.
  • TB Defensive Lineman #50
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Bucs DL Vita Vea suffered an MCL sprain in Week 2 against the Lions.
Tampa Bay head coach Todd Bowles said Vea is considered day to day ahead of the team’s Week 3 game against the Broncos. The last time he suffered a grade 2 MCL sprain, Vea missed one game. His injury is one of many on Tampa’s defense over the pat two weeks.
  • DEN Quarterback #10
Broncos head coach Sean Payton said he was “encouraged” by Bo Nix’s Week 2 performance.
“I feel a confident player. From that standpoint, I’m encouraged,” Payton told reporters after Nix had another dismal outing, completed 20-of-35 passes for 246 yards and two interceptions in a 13-6 loss to the Steelers. Through two weeks, Nix ranks 29th out of 32 qualifying QBs in EPA per drop back. His deep ball has been severely lacking and even his intermediate attempts have been off the mark in his first two pro starts. Payton’s comments suggest Nix will have a long leash this season. Nix goes up against the Bucs in Week 3.
  • MIA Quarterback #18
Dolphins signed QB Tyler Huntley off the Ravens’ practice squad.
Tua Tagovailoa suffered another concerning brain injury in the Dolphins’ Week 2 loss to the Bills. He is scheduled to meet with specialists regarding his lengthy concussion history early this week. Skylar Thompson has already been announced as the starter until he returns. With only Tim Boyle on their practice squad and no one else on the active roster, Miami had to add more quarterback depth and Huntley was one of the best options out there. Huntley signed with the Browns in the offseason but lost the backup battle to Jameis Winston and was cut before the season. He then signed in Baltimore, where all nine of his career starts took place. Huntley will hold the clipboard for Thompson this week but could ultimately take over if Thompson underwhelms.
  • TEN Running Back #2
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Tyjae Spears’ ankle injury is “nothing major.”
Spears sustained the ankle injury in the third quarter of the Titans’ Week 2 loss to the Jets. He did not return to the game, but Rapoport said the back “should be OK.” If Spears is able to practice this week, he should maintain his RB2 duties behind Tony Pollard, who has 33 rushes for 144 yards and a touchdown through two games. Pollard would be a top-12 option if Spears is sidelined next week.
