  • FA Defensive Back #24
Coach Pat Shurmur says the Browns are actively trying to re-sign CB Dimitri Patterson.
Patterson is a Tom Heckert favorite, coming over from Philadelphia last year and excelling as a slot corner throughout the season. Patterson’s contract demands are unclear, but the 28-year-old would be worth bringing back on a multi-year deal. The Browns ideally wouldn’t put him at outside corner, though.
  • CHI Wide Receiver #2
Bears signed WR DJ Moore to a four-year, $110 million contract extension.
Moore and the Bears agreed to a deal that locks him in for four more years, with $82.6 million guaranteed out of $110 million. He had two years left on his deal, but the Bears decided to give him the largest deal in franchise history and keep him around until 2029. The 27-year-old spent the first five years of his career with the Panthers, but had his best season last year. It was his first with the Bears and Moore was the definitive No. 1 wideout, totaling 96 receptions for 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns. With rookie first-overall pick Caleb Williams coming in, Moore now has the most invested in him among the pass-catchers, with rookie Rome Odunze and veteran Keenan Allen also supporting the group. He had his best fantasy season in 2023 and the extension indicates the Bears believe Moore to be their top option for the foreseeable future. The wide receiver market continues to climb, as Moore joins Justin Jefferson, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and several other elite receivers in signing massive deals while CeeDee Lamb and Brandon Aiyuk await theirs. For now, the Bears continue to show no shyness about investing into the offense.
  • PIT Wide Receiver #10
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Steelers WR Roman Wilson will be week-to-week after being carted off the practice field with an ankle injury.
Wilson suffered the ankle injury in Tuesday’s practice. Initially, Mike Tomlin was noncommittal about how much time Wilson would miss, but now it appears that the ankle injury is not severe. Fowler reports that he could “miss some time”, but ultimately is classified as week-to-week. This is good news for fantasy managers hoping to see the third-round rookie perform this year, though it will be difficult for him to see a large number of targets in Arthur Smith’s offense this season.
  • MIN Cornerback #23
Vikings signed CB Fabian Moreau, formerly of the Broncos.
The Vikings are adding Moreau after dealing with major blows to their secondary depth in training camp. He played in 16 games while starting 11 for the Broncos last season. The 30-year-old recorded seven passes defended and one interception in Denver. Starting his career with the Commanders, Moreau has also spent seasons with the Falcons and Giants. The Vikings have lost Mekhi Blackmon to an ACL, with Shaquil Griffin also hurt. Moreau will be depth for a banged-up secondary.
  • JAX Linebacker #58
Jaguars signed LB Tanner Muse, formerly of the Chargers.
Muse was drafted by the Raiders in the third-round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He never took a snap for the team after missing his rookie season with a foot injury. He resurfaced with the Seahawks in his second season and carved out a consistent role on special teams over the next two years. Muse appeared in 10 games for the Chargers last year and logged 198 special teams snaps. He tallied two tackles, both of which came on special teams. Muse will play a similar role for the Jags.
  • NYG Guard #70
Giants signed OG Greg Van Roten, formerly of the Raiders.
Per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, Jermaine Eluemunor is going to play right tackle with Van Roten at right guard. That means Evan Neal is the odd man out. The former top-10 pick is currently on the PUP list and doesn’t appear to have a role in the New York offense. Van Roten started all 17 games for the Raiders last year and is a solid addition for a team that fielded one of the league’s worst offensive lines in 2023.
  • Tight End #86
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Jets have signed TE Anthony Firkser.
Firkser will return to the team that signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He’s spent time with the Lions and most notably with the Titans where he went 26-277-1 in four seasons (2018-2021). He’ll look to provide solid depth behind Tyler Conklin.
  • BUF Safety #22
Bills signed S Kareem Jackson, formerly of the Texans, to a one-year contract.
Jackson began the 2023 season in Denver but didn’t make it through the end of the season. He was ejected from the team’s Week 2 game against the Commanders due to an illegal hit. Jackson committed the same penalty in Week 7 and was suspended for four games, though it was later reduced to two. Jackson inexplicably returned to the field only to commit the exact same penalty once more. The league gave him the four-game suspension this time around. Seeing him as not worth the trouble, Denver cut Jackson after he served his second suspension. The Texans claimed him off waivers but kept him in a reserve role to close out the year. Jackson will be a depth option for a depleted Buffalo secondary, but his history of violent hits has him on thin ice with the league.
  • CHI Quarterback #18
The Athletic’s Kevin Fishbain reports Caleb Williams won’t play in the Bears’ first preseason game.
This isn’t too much of a surprise as the HOF game will serve as an extra preseason for both the Bears and Texans. Williams, who was announced as the starter soon after being drafted, will sit with the rest of the starters. Fans will likely get their first glimpse of Williams against the Bills in Week 1 or the preseason.
  • NYJ Quarterback #8
Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) is unlikely to play in the preseason.
It’s hardly a shock that Rodgers, 40, will sit out the team’s exhibition teams as he comes back from a torn Achilles. That means Tyrod Taylor and Andrew Peasley will take on quarterbacking duties in August. Rodgers has said he’s fully recovered from the Achilles injury and ready for his first full season with the Jets.
  • PIT Wide Receiver #10
Steelers WR Roman Wilson sustained an ankle injury at training camp.
The rookie’s injury is being evaluated by the team’s trainers. Head coach Mike Tomlin was noncommittal when asked how much time Wilson could miss. Wilson is reportedly behind Calvin Austin in the team’s wide receiver pecking order. A lengthy absence won’t help matters for the rookie, who only has an outside shot to become a Steelers starter in 2024.
