Rotoworld

  • FA Linebacker #58

Despite entering contract seasons, Raiders LBs Kirk Morrison and Thomas Howard will both report to training camp on time.
It looks like the Raiders will avoid any surprise holdouts, aside from perhaps first-round pick Darrius Heyward-Bey. Morrison and Howard both return as every-down linebackers. “Captain” Kirk is the more desirable IDP. Oakland will likely broach extension negotiations with the youngsters in-season.
  • NYG Guard #76

Giants coach Brian Daboll said OG Jon Runyan is week-to-week with an ankle injury.
Giants beat writer Art Stapleton said following Daboll’s presser that it “sounds like [Runyan] could be done for the year.” The Giants signed Runyan to a three-year, $30 million deal this offseason to tighten up the left side of their offensive line. The fifth-year guard has started all 13 games he’s appeared in this season, earning a PFF blocking grade of 56.1 while allowing two sacks on 29 pressures. Given the nature of his injury and the fact the Giants are sitting on a 2-11 record, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the team shut Runyan down for the remainder of the season.
  • NO Quarterback #4
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Derek Carr suffered “a significant fracture in his non-throwing hand” in Week 14’s win over the Giants.
  • KC Tackle #70
Chiefs coach Andy Reid said OL D.J. Humphries (hamstring) will have an MRI.
Humphries, starting the first game of his season after recovering from a late-season ACL tear, injured the hamstring in the fourth quarter against the Chargers and left the game. If he were to miss time, the Chiefs would likely have to go back to Wanya Morris at left tackle.
  • CLE Quarterback #5
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Jameis Winston will continue to be the starting quarterback.
It’s a bit of a surprising question to ask when you consider the Browns’ next best options are Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Bailey Zappe. Winston doesn’t come without his warts, but there’s little doubt he’s the best quarterback on the Browns’ roster — and that’s taking into account $230 million man Deshaun Watson. Winston has thrown for 1975-13-9 in eight games this season while making seven starts. The former No. 1overall pick probably won’t be competing for a starting job any time soon, but he ranks among the league’s top backups and should continue to start as long as his performances are passable.
  • CLE Defensive Back #0
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Greg Newsome (hamstring) will “miss time.”
With the Browns in a lost season, it would make sense to throw Newsome on injured reserve and end his season if this hamstring injury is at all serious. ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi said it was the same hammy that Newsome underwent surgery for in the summer. Those two data points together suggest that we could get an IR placement soon. Martin Emerson will have a bigger role in the defense if Newsome is sidelined.
  • NYG Quarterback #2
Giants coach Brian Daboll said Drew Lock (undisclosed) would start against the Ravens in Week 15 “if he’s healthy enough.”
Lock is reportedly getting an MRI and is said to be “sore” but no official body part has been disclosed by Daboll. It seems the Giants would turn back to Tommy DeVito if Lock were to miss time. Whether they start DeVito or Lock is mostly academic at this point as the Giants are 15-point underdogs to the Ravens in Week 15.
  • CLE Wide Receiver #19
Browns WR Cedric Tillman remains in concussion protocol.
Tillman did not practice at any point last week and this update has us pessimistic on his odds of playing in Week 15 against the Chiefs. If he remains sidelined, it will be continued good news for Jerry Jeudy, David Njoku, and Elijah Moore as they’ll continue to be Jameis Winston’s main weapons.
  • TB Running Back #7
Bucs coach Todd Bowles said Bucky Irving (back) will only be available for Week 15’s game against the Chargers if “they can get the back to loosen up.”
Come feel old with us, Bucky. There was no MRI done on Irving last night per Jenna Laine, which is a good sign. But it seems like Irving’s status will be very practice-dependent this week. He’d be on the RB2 line against a strong Chargers defense if he can play, but his status appears to be very tenuous right now.
  • HOU Linebacker #48
Texans designated LB Christian Harris (knee) for return from injured reserve.
In addition to Harris, the Texans also opened the 21-day return window for offensive guard Kenyon Green. With linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair suspended for the team’s next three games, Harris should be tasked with a bigger role once he returns to action. The third-year linebacker has not played a regular season snap, but tallied a career-high 101 tackles and two sacks last season.
  • LAR Wide Receiver #15
Rams coach Sean McVay said Demarcus Robinson suffered a shoulder sprain in Week 14’s win over the Bills.
McVay didn’t give much of an update on the receiver’s status but said he was hopeful that the injury wouldn’t impact his Week 15 availability on Thursday night against the 49ers. Robinson was injured after diving for a 56-yard reception and did not return to the field. Getting on the field in a short week could prove difficult, so we’ll see how things go for Robinson in the coming days.
