The Texans may be on the verge of replacing DeMarcus “Petey” Faggins with rookie Fred Bennett at right cornerback.
Bennett has good size and has been excellent in practice, while Faggins was the victim on several long pass plays through the first four games. The general belief is that Faggins could be an elite nickel corner for Houston.
  • CAR Wide Receiver #17

Xavier Legette (hip/wrist) was listed as a full participant for Wednesday’s practice.
Legette gets in a full practice, but it’s worth noting that the Panthers didn’t have a full practice with the sessional reportedly being played at “half speed.” Panthers head coach Dave Canales told reporters that Legette would need significant improvement to play in Week 17 against the Buccaneers, so fantasy managers shouldn’t count on Legette being on the field just yet.
  • NYG Quarterback #2
Drew Lock (shoulder) was listed as a limited participant for Wednesday’s practice.
Lock is expected to start against the Cowboys in Week 17, and this injury report shouldn’t scare away fantasy managers. What should scare fantasy managers away is that he’s Drew Lock.
  • NYG Running Back #29
Tyrone Tracy (ankle) was listed as a non-participant for Wednesday’s practice.
Tracy and Malik Nabers both were listed as non-participants. It’s worth noting that it was just an estimate with the Giants not practicing due to the Christmas holiday. Tracy’s status for Week 17 against the Colts will be largely determined by how much work he can get in the coming days.
  • KC Defensive Lineman #95
Chiefs declared DT Chris Jones, DE Joshua Uche, OL C.J. Hanson, OL D.J. Humphries, T Ethan Driskell and DE Malik Herring inactive for Week 17 against the Steelers.
The Chiefs were hopeful that Jones may be able to go, but the calf injury and the short layoff made it impossible for the 30-year-old to go. There’s a good chance he’ll be able to play if Week 18 against the Broncos game if that contest has any significance. The Chiefs will miss Humphries for a third straight game, but Jawaan Taylor (knee) is active for the Christmas Day contest.
  • PIT Quarterback #2
Steelers declared QB Justin Fields, WR Ben Skowronek, CB Joey Porter Jr., DE Preston Smith and DE Dean Lowry inactive for Week 17 against the Chiefs.
Fields is unable to go as expected while dealing with his abdominal injury, but he will be the emergency third quarterback. The 25-year-old signal-caller will all but assuredly sit with Kyle Allen being the backup to Russell Wilson for the Christmas Day showdown.
  • NYG Wide Receiver #1
Malik Nabers was listed as a non-participant for Wednesday’s practice with a toe injury.
It’s an estimate, as the Giants didn’t practice Christmas Day. Nabers has been dealing with injuries for most of the year, but the impressive 21-year-old has been able to play through them thus far. The Giants have no reason to risk Nabers in meaningless games, however, so it’s something to keep an eye on for fantasy managers.
  • SEA Front Office
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Pete Carroll has interest in the Chicago Bears head coaching vacancy.
Carroll turned 73 in September, but it’s not a surprise that he has interest in returning to the coaching ranks. He was unceremoniously let go after 14 seasons with the Seahawks, but it’s worth noting Seattle was almost always competitive under the former USC head coach and was able to make the postseason in 10 of those campaigns. The coordinator hires — important anyway — would be especially important if Carroll was to get another head gig.
  • PIT Quarterback #2
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Justin Fields (abdominal) is not expected to play in Week 17 against the Chiefs.
Fields, 25, is listed as questionable and got in two limited practices prior to the Christmas Day showcase against the Chiefs. Kyle Allen will be the backup to Russell Wilson assuming the former first-round pick does indeed sit.
  • BAL Wide Receiver #4
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Zay Flowers (shoulder) is expected to play in Week 17 against the Texans.
Flowers is listed as questionable for the Christmas showdown, but the 24-year-old wideout appears to be on the right side of that to play against Houston. Fantasy managers will want to be totally sure before having Flowers in their fantasy lineup, but assuming he does indeed play, it seems reasonable to expect a solid fantasy contribution Wednesday.
  • HOU Wide Receiver
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Diontae Johnson is not expected to play in Week 17 against the Ravens.
Johnson was claimed off waivers from Baltimore on Monday, but even with the Houston wide receiver corps decimated by injuries, the 28-year-old won’t be able to make his debut until Week 18 against the Titans it appears.
