Emeka Egbuka (concussion/foot) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

Egbuka logged one limited practice on Friday last week but was ruled out shortly after. It looks like he is trending in the right direction for Week 8, but the Bucs’ next two injury reports will be more revealing. Assuming all goes well, Egbuka should be back in the WR2 ranks with Baker Mayfield under center and playing well in Tampa Bay’s Week 7 demolition of the Panthers.

Bowles said Egbuka did clear concussion protocol, but the foot injury he has been dealing with for the last two weeks will officially sideline him for this week’s game against the Falcons. Hopefully this isn’t any kind of a major setback for Egbuka, who shed his non-contact jersey in Thursday’s practice and was limited in the first two practices to start the week. Ted Hurst will again operate as the Buccaneers’ primary outside target but shouldn’t be trusted as anything more than a risky WR4.

After being limited in back-to-back practices to start the week, and shedding his non-contact jersey on Thursday, Egbuka being a DNP on Friday is a notable setback. Buccaneers beat writer Greg Auman speculated that Egbuka will “be ruled out again” for Week 8’s game against the Falcons, but we’ll wait for official word from the team before drawing conclusions. That said, the Bucs could again have Ted Hurst operating as their primary outside threat.

There’s a good chance Egbuka has been upgraded to a full participant in practice, meaning he is making his way through the league’s concussion protocol. He remains on track to play this week after missing Week 7. With Baker Mayfield back under center, Egbuka may be able to turn around his season after a rather quiet start to the year. He is in the WR2 mix for Week 8 versus the Falcons.

Just minutes after head coach Todd Bowles said the team would list Egbuka as doubtful, the official injury report listed him as out, despite his limited participation in Friday’s practice. Egbuka was unable to clear concussion protocol in time to be active for this week, and will now set his sights on returning in Week 8 in time to face the Falcons.

Bowles said Egbuka remains in concussion protocol and initially said “I’d say he’s out [for Week 7], too,” before saying the second-year receiver would be listed as doubtful. Fantasy managers holding out hope that Egbuka will suit up for Sunday’s game against the Panthers should ensure their backup plan is in place, as players listed as doubtful seldom end up playing on game day. Assuming he’s out, Ted Hurst could be tasked with operating as the Bucs’ WR1. Hurst has caught 11-of-22 targets for 168 yards and one touchdown this season but wouldn’t be viewed as anything more than a WR3/FLEX play even with Baker Mayfield (thumb) back under center.

Egbuka missed the first two practices of the week, but could have a shot at suiting up after appearing on the practice field Friday. Head coach Todd Bowles should give an update on Egbuka shortly after practice, so we’ll check back on his official status once we have word on his Week 7 availability. Whether or not he has a chance to play will largely depend on the team’s independent neurologists clearing him from the league’s concussion protocol.
  • TB Wide Receiver #2
The Buccaneers’ No. 1 wide receiver is now firmly on the wrong side of questionable. It is a huge bummer, particularly after Egbuka earned 16 targets last week. Chris Godwin and rookie Ted Hurst earned targets most effectively behind him, though they are likely best viewed as FLEX starters at this time.
  • TB Wide Receiver #2
Egbuka finished the Bucs’ overtime loss to the Steelers, so his concussion symptoms likely arose in the hours or days after the game. He will now need to pass through the league’s concussion protocol to be cleared for Week 7. Players typically miss one game while in the protocol, and we don’t know the severity of his foot injury. Fantasy managers should prepare to be without him for at least a week. His absence would free up more looks for Chris Godwin and rookie Ted Hurst, both of whom would be in the WR4 mix if Egbuka can’t go.

Fantasy managers can’t complain about 17.8 PPR points, but this should have been an explosion spot for the second-year wideout. Jalon Daniels routinely missed him on routine throws, the most painful of which was a long would-be touchdown that grazed Egbuka’s hands as it sailed past him. There were several other throws that were behind, low, or simply too late. A short, two-yard score at the top of the second quarter will have to suffice. Egbuka is pulling away as the Bucs’ alpha receiver, pushing him back into the WR2 ranks for the team’s Week 7 date with the Panthers.

Egbuka’s nine targets handily led the team on a night undrafted free agent rookie Jalon Daniels attempted only 25 passes. The team also demonstrated an active desire to get Egbuka more involved following a four-target game against the Packers a week ago, feeding him a red zone carry on a jet sweep for his touchdown score. Egbuka remains at the mercy of the team’s lackluster quarterback situation for at least another week, pending Baker Mayfield’s injury. He’ll be a shaky WR3 against the Steelers in Week 6.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said DJ Turner is day-to-day with a heel injury.

Turner was initially believed to have suffered an ankle injury in the Bengals’ Week 8 win over the Titans, but it was later ruled to be a heel injury. According to Taylor, the fourth-year corner has a chance to suit up in Week 9 when the Bengals take on the Falcons in Madrid, so his status will be one to keep an eye on throughout the week. Turner has earned a PFF coverage grade of 72.9 this season, allowing opposing receivers to catch 16-of-26 targets for 132 yards and one touchdown.

Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski said Zachariah Branch (hamstring) will not play in Week 9 against the Bengals.

Branch suffered a hamstring injury in Week 8’s shutout loss to the Buccaneers and will miss next week’s game against the Bengals in Madrid. The rookie third-rounder has caught just 10 passes for 64 scoreless yards this season and has also served as the Falcons’ primary kick and punt returner.

Saints head coach Kellen Moore said the team is still deciding when it will open Travis Etienne’s (hamstring) 21-day return window.

Etienne hasn’t played since suffering a hamstring injury in Week 3 against the Raiders. The 27-year-old back will need to have his 21-day return window opened before he can take the practice field, so we’ll see if Moore and the staff elect to designate him for a return ahead of Wednesday’s practice. Until that happens, Alvin Kamara, Kendre Miller, and CJ Donaldson will continue to operate as the Saints’ top options, with Kamara the likely leader in what has been an underwhelming backfield this season.

Saints head coach Kellen Moore said the team is still deciding when it will open Jordyn Tyson’s (hamstring) 21-day return window.

When Tyson landed on injured reserve, the initial belief was that he would return sometime after the Saints’ bye week. Whether that is in Week 9 or the coming weeks is still to be determined, but we wouldn’t expect him to take the field the same week the team opens his return window. That said, opening that window for a return is the first step in getting Tyson back on the field. If he takes the field Wednesday, Tyson would then have 21 days to practice before the team would need to officially activate him from injured reserve. We could still be a few weeks away from seeing the the rookie first-rounder in action, but hopefully we get an encouraging update on his progression this week.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Buccaneers LB YaYa Diaby is dealing with a Grade 2 MCL sprain.

According to Rapoport, Diaby “should be back within a matter of weeks,” but it sounds like the fourth-year linebacker could avoid a stint on injured reserve. Diaby has totaled three sacks — all of which came in Week 7 against the Panthers- and also has 16 tackles and one interception this season. Diaby has started all eight games for the Bucs this year while playing on nearly 60 percent of the team’s defensive snaps.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans did not have an update on David Montgomery’s groin injury when speaking with the media on Monday

Montgomery, who missed the Texans’ last two games with his injury, is coming off the team’s Week 8 bye, and there was some hope he might be able to get on the field for Week 9’s game against the Chargers. While that may still be the case, it’s possible we will need to wait until Wednesday, when the team releases its first injury report, to see how Montgomery is trending heading into the weekend. The 29-year-old running back has struggled mightily this season even when healthy, rushing for 138 yards and two touchdowns on 52 carries while averaging a dismal 2.7 YPC. Even if he is active against the Chargers, Montgomery would be hard to trust as anything more than an RB3/Flex play given his performance pre-injury.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said “we’ll see” when asked if A.J. Brown (knee) could practice this week.

This is basically a non-answer from Vrabel, who said the team will see how Brown progresses through the week and how he responds to treatment. Brown missed Week 8’s game against the Dolphins after he suffered what was described as a flare up” of a knee issue that has plagued him for some time. It’s far too early to assume Brown will be able to go in Week 9 against the Packers given the timing of his injury last week, so his status will be one to keep an eye on throughout the week.

Chargers signed CB Jalyn Armour-Davis, formerly of the Titans.

Armour-Davis saw his 2025 season come to an end in Week 17 when he suffered a torn Achilles. The 27-year-old corner has spent the last 11 months rehabbing his injury and is now set to make his return for the winless Chargers. To the surprise of nobody, Armour-Davis is yet another player with ties to a Harbaugh brother, as he began his career playing under John Harbaugh with the Ravens from 2022 to 2024. Now, he’ll have a chance to play under Jim Harbaugh and could see playing time in the coming weeks once he gets up to speed. Armour-Davis allowed 24 receptions for 346 yards and two touchdowns on 31 targets last season while with the Titans, earning a PFF coverage grade up 49.6.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Breece Hall (quad) is “now good to go and should play next week” against the Chiefs.

It was reported on Sunday that Hall was “hoping for next week,” which is now here, as the Jets prepare to take on the Chiefs in Kansas City. After logging a week of limited practices and entering last weekend as questionable, Hall was still scratched from Week 8’s game against the Raiders, leading some to believe he had suffered a setback in his recovery. Hopefully that was more of a case of the Jets exercising caution with their RB1, especially with Braelon Allen playing well in his absence. Hall’s status will still be one to monitor, but this is a very optimistic report on him to start the week.

Jaguars DT DaVon Hamilton suffered a torn quad in Week 8’s win over the Colts.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was the first to report the injury. This is expected to be a season-ender for Hamilton, who has totaled 16 tackles and a half sack this season. Hamilton has earned a 74.0 PFF defensive grade this season and is a key contributor top-five run defense.
