Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase (concussion evaluation) is questionable to return Week 4 against the Jaguars.

Chase was injured after a second quarter facemask penalty by a Jaguars defender. His neck whipped back as he was taken to the ground and he promptly exited the game. After a brief amount of time in the blue tent, Chase headed to the locker room. The Bengals announced he is being evaluated for a concussion but a locker room visit indicates Chase is on the wrong side of questionable.

Chase exited Week 4’s game against the Jaguars with a brain injury and didn’t return to the game. He will now need to clear a series of tests in the coming days if he hopes to be cleared in time to play in the Bengals’ Week 5 game against the Dolphins. Chase caught three passes for 27 yards before leaving Sunday’s game against the Jaguars and has caught 21 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns this season. If he’s unable to play, Dohnte Meyers, who has seen 14 targets over the last two weeks, could be worth a stash in deeper leagues with Tee Higgins (adductor) also considered day-to-day to start the week.

Chase exited in the first half after his facemask was pulled by a Jaguars defender and his head slammed against the ground. He headed to the locker room to be evaluated for the concussion and was promptly ruled out coming out of halftime. Chase’s day ends after catching three targets for 27 yards. Tee Higgins will see a big boost in targets with Chase out while Dohnte Meyers will also see an uptick in usage.

Chase’s 12 targets led the Bengals in this one. The star receiver caught all three of his targets on the Bengals’ first drive of the game, with his last target resulting in a three-yard touchdown. Chase would come up with a big 21-yard reception on a fourth-and-two in the third quarter that helped set up Evan McPherson for an eventual field goal and came up with two catches on third downs to extend drives. Chase has now scored in back-to-back games and has a dominant 16-173-3 line on 21 targets over that span. As usual, he’ll be a must-start in Week 4 against the Jaguars in a game that could have plenty of scoring.

His first touchdown was a breathtaking back-shoulder ball that required picture-perfect foot dragging to bring in for a score — it was such a good catch that CBS play-by-play man Kevin Harlan didn’t actually believe it was a touchdown at first. He added a second touchdown out of structure when Joe Burrow drifted to the right of the pocket and lured Reed Blankenship up to create a hole for Chase. Fantasy’s WR1 is back at it again and should (obviously) be started and trusted against the Steelers in Week 3.

Typically if you see 33 points for the Bengals, you are going to assume a big day for the No. 1 wideout, especially vs. an undermanned secondary. It wasn’t meant to be for whatever reason — one reason was short fields set up by Bucs turnovers — with Joe Burrow looking Chase’s way on only four of 35 attempts. Burrow was also more focused on the middle of the field than the boundary. It continues Burrow and Chase’s baffling habit of quiet Week 1 efforts, but there is nothing to read in to it heading into Week 2. Chase will be a locked-and-loaded WR1 vs. an elite Texans defense smarting for a Week 1 collapse vs. Buffalo.
  • CIN Wide Receiver #1
Chase was a full participant in each of the Bengals’ first two practices to start the week and is good to go for Week 1, according to head coach Zac Taylor. Chase can be trusted as a high-end WR1 for fantasy players in a matchup against the Buccaneers that should be ripe for fantasy points.
  • CIN Wide Receiver #1
Chase’s participation actually exceeds expectations. Beginning the week with a limited session would have been unsurprising. The Bengals’ star wide receiver hyperextended his knee on August 25th, but he is now good to go. Treat Chase as an elite WR1, per usual.

He said the same about Tee Higgins, who is dealing with a heel issue. Chase suffered a serious-looking knee injury late in camp, briefly giving Bengals fans and fantasy managers nightmares of him missing extended time. He was ultimately fine and should be good to go for Week 1, even if his participation in practice is limited. Per usual, Chase is in the WR1-overall mix versus the Bengals this week.

Tee Higgins (heel contusion) was also spotted at practice after both players were said to be limited participants last week. The Bengals won’t release their first official injury report of the week until Wednesday, but it doesn’t sound like either Chase or Higgins is at risk of missing Week 1’s game against the Buccaneers. As usual, Chase profiles as a high-end fantasy WR1, while Higgins should be viewed more as a WR2 with WR1 upside in any given week.
  • CIN Wide Receiver #1
We’re not viewing this as a major cause for concern; the Bengals have no reason to rush Chase back on the field after he hyperextended his knee last week. If he’s still drawing limited tags on the official injury reports next week, then we can start Panic Mode. Taylor added that Higgins (heel contusion) may also be limited this week. "(Tee) and Ja’Marr will be good at the end of the week,” said Taylor.

Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy said Rico Dowdle is making progress in his attempt to return from a toe injury.

McCarthy said he expects Dowdle and Jaylen Warren to be a “one-two punch” once Dowdle returns to the field. Warren has totaled 34 rushes over the last two weeks while rushing for 220 scoreless yards, but had a 21-89-0 line during the first two weeks of the season when Dowdle was active. Both backs will likely fall in the RB3/FLEX range if Dowdle suits up for Week 5’s game against the Colts.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Tank Bigsby will have core muscle surgery and be placed on injured reserve.

Rapoport reports there are hopes that Bigsby will be back “in six weeks or shorter.” The 24-year-old back will be required to miss at least four games now that he’s headed for an IR stint. With Saquon Barkley (hamstring) also at risk of missing at least one game, third-string RB Will Shipley could be in line for a busy day in Week 5 against the Jaguars. Shipley rushed six times for 23 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Rams, but could be a sneaky option in PPR leagues given his pass-catching profile during his days at Clemson, when he caught 85 passes over three seasons. It also wouldn’t be surprising if Dameon Pierce or Jaydon Blue were promoted off the practice squad and saw early down touches while Shipley serves in more of a third-down role. There’s a lot to figure out here over the next few days.

Rams head coach Sean McVay said he expects Aaron Donald (back) to practice this week.

McVay said he expects Donald to practice this week and hopefully play when the Rams take on the Bills on Monday Night Football in Week 5. Donald has totaled four tackles in his first two games with the Rams this season and has yet to record a sack in 68 defensive snaps. The Rams will release their first injury report on Thursday, so we’ll get a better sense of Donald’s status then.

Bears coach Ben Johnson said Kyle Monangai (thumb) is “going to be OK” and that it was a “day to day deal.”

Monangai seemingly winds up on the injury report every other week, but he keeps playing and keeps playing well. We wouldn’t be surprised to see him listed again this week, but it sounds like he’s very much in line to play against the Packers.

Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley said the team is taking it “one day at a time” with Caleb Douglas’ ankle injury.

It’s hard to know what to make of this, but Douglas has missed back-to-back games with his injury and could be at risk of missing a third straight game if he can’t get on the practice field ahead of Week 5’s game against the Bengals. Douglas did not practice at all last week, so even getting on the field in a limited capacity would be an improvement. His name will be one to keep an eye on when the Dolphins release their first injury report on Wednesday.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Tyquan Thornton (ankle) will miss 12-16 weeks.

Thornton is having surgery “within the week” with the hopes of being able to return late in the season or in the playoffs for the Chiefs. Xavier Worthy will likely shift up in the target pecking order absent an outside addition. Cyrus Allen could also get more run than he has over the first month of the season.

Cowboys designated LG Tyler Smith (thumb) for return from injured reserve.

Smith’s 21-day practice window will now open, giving the team three weeks to officially activate him from IR or rule him out for the season. Smith was placed on injured reserve before the start of the season after undergoing surgery to correct an issue that he had previously put off. Smith, a three-time Pro Bowler and 2023 second-team All-Pro can be activated at any time.

Panthers head coach Dave Canales said he is “hopeful” Jaelan Phillips (hamstring) will be able to play in Week 6 against the Eagles.

Phillips went down with a hamstring injury late in Sunday’s game against the Lions and didn’t return to the field. For a player with Phillips’ injury history, there were immediate concerns regarding the severity of the injury, but with a Week 5 bye on tap, the hope is Phillips won’t miss much time, if any. Phillips has totaled two sacks in his first four games of the season. In addition to Phillips, the team is also hopeful that OT Monroe Freeling (knee) will be able to return in Week 6.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Eagles EDGE Jonathan Greenard is considered day-to-day with an ankle injury.

Greenard was downgraded from questionable return to doubtful during last week’s loss to the Rams, but it sounds like he’ll have a chance to suit up in Week 5 against the Jaguars if he’s able to log a few days of practice this week. Greenard missed the first two games of this season due to an oblique injury and has totaled just one tackle on the year.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said he’ll “have more answers Wednesday” on Saquon Barkley’s hamstring injury.

Barkley went down early in Sunday’s loss to the Rams and did not return to the game. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said earlier on Monday that Barkley’s injury “does not seem to be overly serious,” but with the Eagles taking on the Jaguars in London next week, it wouldn’t be surprising if he missed at least one game. Backup Tank Bigsby led the Eagles with 55 rushing yards on 14 carries and could be a viable RB2 if Barkley is out.
