Jets OC Frank Reich said the team will “scale back” Kenyon Sadiq’s role early in the season.

“We’ll have to work him in slowly,” Reich concluded. Sadiq has plenty of upside, but it doesn’t sound like he needs to be on the redraft radar early in the year unless you play in a deep enough league to make stashing him worthwhile.

Not only did Sadiq not make a huge impact on the field, but he also played fewer snaps and ran fewer routes than Mason Taylor. Sadiq is an incredibly athletic and talented rookie, but he’s also 21 years old and is going to need a while to adjust to the NFL game. His role will likely increase for the Jets as the year goes on, but he figures to be inconsistent in the early part of the season.

Sadiq’s rushing score came on a first quarter end-around. This was a strong debut for the No. 16 overall pick, especially since Geno Smith attempted only 24 passes in an easy road victory. Awesome stuff, though Pro Football Focus did chart Sadiq as being easily out-snapped by Mason Taylor. It’s obviously promising that getting Sadiq the ball was a point of emphasis when he was on the field, but his No. 2 status in his own position group is going to make him a no-go in the top 12 for the time being.

Sadiq practiced in full throughout the week. Even at full strength health-wise, Sadiq will likely open the year as a pass-catching specialist, with Mason Taylor taking on the traditional inline role. Offensive coordinator Frank Reich even said the team would “scale back” his workload early in the year. Sadiq is worth stashing in deeper leagues but isn’t on the fantasy radar for his NFL debut.
  • NYJ Tight End #16
Sadiq is not yet ready for fantasy football TE1 duties, but he appears to have recovered from the setback he suffered in his rehab related to a hernia back in August. The Jets published their Week 1 depth chart earlier today with Sadiq listed as the backup behind TE Mason Taylor.

Taylor reportedly functioned as the Jets’ top tight end throughout training camp with Kenyon Sadiq (hernia) sidelined. Taylor, whose blocking ability recently drew praise from head coach Aaron Glenn, worked with Geno Smith two or three times a week in the offseason, developing chemistry with the veteran journeyman. Last year Taylor saw a target on 20 percent of his routes and logged a lowly 1.11 yards per route run in the low-octane New York offense. He’ll be a sneaky deep league option in Week 1 against the Titans.

This comes a few hours after it was reported that Hall was “moving well” while participating in agility drills on the sideline. Hall suffered a groin injury last week and is expected to miss two or three weeks, but a return in time for Week 1 was always in the cards. Hall is one of several players Glenn is hoping to have back in time for Week 1. He also said he expects TE Kenyon Sadiq (hernia) and CB D’Angelo Ponds (calf) to be ready for Week 1. Hall is in the mix as a fringe RB1/RB2 this season and is expected to handle another heavy workload in his fifth season.

Glenn said the same last week, so it’s good to know plans haven’t changed. That said, the rookie tight end has been sidelined since early August after suffering a setback in his recovery from offseason hernia surgery, so it’s hard to imagine him having much of an impact in Week 1, even if active. We’ll continue to get updates on Sadiq until he’s back on the field, but at least he appears to be on track to meet Glenn’s return timeline. In addition to Sadiq, Glenn said he also expects CB D’Angelo Ponds (calf) to return for Week 1.
  • NYJ Tight End #16
Sadiq is getting closer to being ready, according to Glenn. The head coach reiterated as he said earlier this month that Sadiq’s absence won’t extend into the regular season. Missing as much time as he did this offseason and in training camp, it’s unlikely Sadiq will have an immediate fantasy impact.
  • NYJ Tight End #16
Sadiq underwent the procedure early in the offseason but recently suffered a setback. The good news is that Glenn said it isn’t something that will sideline him during the regular season. Still, missing the first half of training camp is not a great start for a rookie, let alone one playing a position that is notoriously difficult to transition from college to pro. Sadiq will likely pick up steam as the season goes on, but he doesn’t figure to have much fantasy value during the first month of the season.
  • NYJ Tight End #16
Sadiq has missed recent training camp practices for undisclosed reasons. Now we know his recovery from surgery has not gone as expected. Though Glenn remains confident Sadiq — the team’s first round pick in the 2026 draft — will be OK for Week 1, fantasy managers should keep a close eye on Sadiq’s status in the coming weeks. For now the rookie is listed as the Jets TE2 behind Mason Taylor.

Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur said he does not think CB Will Johnson (neck) and CB Max Melton (toe) suffered serious injuries.

That’s good to hear, especially with Johnson having suffered a neck injury. The Cardinals are already without slot CB Garrett Williams, who has not yet returned from last season’s Achilles tendon rupture. Johnson and Melton start on the perimeter. Losing one or both could be consequential against the 49ers next week. Stay tuned.

ESPN’s Nick Wagoner reports that 49ers WR Demarcus Robinson has been initially diagnosed with a right high-ankle sprain “that could cost him extended time.”

Although Robinson will apparently undergo more testing, the “initial diagnosis” aspect seems like a formality at this point. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said he is “sure” the team will have to sign a wide receiver, “whether it’s a practice squad or to the roster.” For those curious, Shanahan was asked whether there was any chance of bringing back WR Brandon Aiyuk. Per Wagoner, Shanahan responded simply, “No.” That’s that. Expect Robinson to miss time, likely increasing WR Deebo Samuel’s involvement. No. 1 WR Mike Evans suffered a hip injury, though Shanahan did not seem to think it was serious.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Colts WR Alec Pierce’s (heel) X-rays were negative.

Pierce evidently avoided suffering a fracture, which is nice to hear. He will undergo more testing tomorrow to determine the remaining specifics and the injury’s severity. Hopefully, the Colts’ field-stretching wide receiver is not sidelined for long, if at all. Pierce underwent surgery on his ankle/heel this offseason and spent almost the entire spring and summer rehabbing.

Tyler Allgeier rushed five times for 10 yards in the Cardinals’ Week 2 loss to the Seahawks, adding two receptions for nine yards.

Allgeier failed to generate more than five yards on a touch all night. Rookie RB Jeremiyah Love fared slightly better, but the Seahawks’ defense simply bottled up the Cardinals’ backfield. Allgeier is a capable back but needs help from his offensive environment to generate usable fantasy stat lines. He can only be viewed as a likely touchdown-dependent FLEX against the 49ers next week, although he remains a worthwhile bench stash.

Jeremiyah Love rushed nine times for 29 yards in the Cardinals’ Week 2 loss to the Seahawks, adding three receptions for 16 yards.

On Friday, Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur said Love and RB Tyler Allgeier are “gonna rotate” this season. Ultimately, they did in Week 2, but Love was in for the first series, running the ball on three of the Cardinals’ first six plays. The rookie running back looks spry and explosive, yet there was simply no room to run against the Seahawks’ elite defense. Although Love is still splitting snaps with RB Tyler Allgeier, Love out-touched him 12-7 this week. Love can be viewed as a low-end RB2/FLEX next week against the 49ers.

Kendrick Bourne caught 2-of-3 targets for 11 yards in the Cardinals’ Week 2 loss to the Seahawks.

Bourne earned his first target on the Cardinals’ fourth drive. The throw was a tad late, and Bourne’s hesitated while running his route, so the pass glanced off his hands in the flats. He caught the next two, but barely cleared double-digit yardage. Bourne does not need to be rostered in 12-team leagues.

Brian Thomas caught 3-of-8 targets for 40 yards in the Jaguars’ Week 2 loss to the Broncos.

Thomas had a couple drops in the one and once again seemed not to be on the same page as Trevor Lawrence. Parker Washington led the Jaguars with a dozen targets and was clearly Lawrence’s preferred target. The highlight of Thomas’ day came on a 22-yard grab. BTJ’s downfield role in the Jacksonville offense means he will be a high variance weekly play in 12-team leagues. He some some flex appeal for Week 3 against a tough New England secondary.

Michael Wilson caught 2-of-7 targets for 18 yards in the Cardinals’ Week 2 loss to the Seahawks.

Wilson had a brutal day. The Seahawks prevented two receptions by committing defensive pass interference, and QB Jacoby Brissett prevented at least two more with a pair of overthrows. One led to an interception. The other led to a dropped interception. Wilson remains WR3/FLEX-viable against the 49ers in Week 3, coming off consecutive seven-target games. He is stuck in a tough situation, but the opportunities to score fantasy points should be there next week.

Troy Franklin caught 1-of-2 targets for 27 yards in the Broncos’ Week 2 win against the Jaguars.

Franklin’s lone grab came on a nice sideline throw from Bo Nix. He only ran 10 pass routes on 36 Nix drop backs, however, making him unreliable in fantasy leagues. Franklin should be on waiver wires until or unless Denver struggles with wideout injuries.

Ted Hurst caught 1-of-5 targets for 21 yards in the Bucs’ Week 2 loss against the Browns.

Hurst was overthrown by Baker Mayfield a few times in the second half. It could have been a big day for the speedy rookie if his quarterback weren’t struggling so mightily with deep throws. Hurst had a solid role though, running a route on 29 of the team’s 37 drop backs. He will be a high-variance flex play for Week 3 against the Vikings if Mayfield can find a little accuracy.
