Week 13 Fantasy Football Rankings: TE, K, DEF

Johnson should be ‘wired’ to recover fumbles
Mike Florio and Chris Simms dissect Diontae Johnson’s apology for his lack of effort to recover a fumble and discuss why NFL players' first instincts should always be to do everything they can to grab the ball.

Sam LaPorta searches for touchdowns in New Orleans, David Njoku wonders if it will be Dorian Thompson-Robinson or Joe Flacco under center, and Kyle Pitts ponders his Falcons place vs. the Jets.

Other positions: Quarterback | Running Back | Receiver

Updated 12/1 at 7:00 PM ET. Removed Dalton Schultz and Tommy Tremble.

TE Notes: George Kittle’s downside finally returned in Week 12. The problem, as always, remains his upside. It will be more attainable for a potential Week 13 shootout with the Eagles’ soft pass defense. The Birds have been less giving up the seam than the boundary, but they are not a stay-away tight end defense. … Trey McBride is averaging eight targets across Kyler Murray’s three starts. Almost no tight end is receiving that kind of usage right now. The Steelers stink as a matchup, but we don’t have the luxury of turning away from this connection. … Sam LaPorta is averaging 35 yards over the past three weeks. He’s just a classic “who are you ranking ahead of him?” LaPorta’s questions are not as concerning as they are for those behind him. … Dalton Schultz has dudded in back-to-back contests. A Broncos defense that surrenders the most tight end fantasy points is pulled over on the shoulder waiting with jumper cables.

It’s not a bit to say Taysom Hill is a tight end scam. He is. He’s not a tight end. It’s also not a stretch to say the Saints have essentially no choice but to involve him against the Lions’ struggling defense with Rashid Shaheed (quad) out and Chris Olave (concussion) ailing. … Ok then! The Steelers’ post-Matt Canada offense apparently likes Pat Freiermuth. Part of it was a matchup with the Bengals’ seam-deficient defense, but you don’t look away from 9/120 with six teams on bye and almost no other tight ends producing. … The same Bengals defense that jump-started Freiermuth will hopefully do the same for Evan Engram. Still yet to catch fewer than four passes, perhaps Engram finally finds the end zone after he came oh-so-close in Week 12. … Jake Ferguson is an environment bet, not a volume bet. He’s averaging just 32 yards over the past three weeks.

David Njoku has 24 targets in Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s two post-Deshaun Watson starts. He was also gobbling up looks even before Watson went down. The touchdown odds are long in this short-handed offense, but Njoku is a solid volume bet even if Joe Flacco gets the call. … The thesis of the Gerald Everett play — all his teammates are hurt, maybe he will score a touchdown — finally came true in Week 12. It remains in play for Week 13. … It’s all but over for Kyle Pitts. He remains in the top 15 by sheer virtue of overdue big-play regression. This man can’t remain this empty-handed forever. He could lose you a week. Unlike Cade Otton, he might also win you one. … Juwan Johnson offers zero ceiling. He does provide reasonable hope of floor with half the Saints’ skill corps injured vs. a struggling Lions defense. … Tucker Kraft is a TE2 touchdown flier vs. the Chiefs’ stout defense.
