QB Notes: Fantasy football’s most consistently unstoppable force, Jalen Hurts hasn’t posted under 26.7 points since Week 1. That baseline number is higher than the average for every quarterback not named Patrick Mahomes. Matchups and game environments do not matter for Hurts and his dual-threat. … Which brings us to Patrick Mahomes, who comes off bye against an Eagles defense permitting the fifth most passing yards and third most quarterback fantasy points. The 45.5 game total is disappointing and underwhelming, but Mahomes is close to a mortal lock to post at least top 6-7 numbers. … Tua Tagovailoa headed into bye on a low ebb and must now deal with a Raiders defense that’s had a new lease on life post-Josh McDaniels — against the Giants and Jets. Vegas is not a pushover squad, but 13.5-point home favorite Miami has absolutely wrecked its South Beach visitors this season. Sunday should establish the limits of Antonio Pierce’s good vibes. … The Cowboys have finally stopped messing around on offense and the result has been Dak Prescott out-producing every other QB by 19.9 fantasy points over the past three weeks. The Panthers are another hopelessly soft matchup.
The Bills … hoo boy. It’s probably not an exaggeration to say Josh Allen’s turnovers got Ken Dorsey fired. Josh Allen’s turnovers will also remain a fact of life in an offense where he has to do everything opposite a defense struggling to do anything amidst a biblical wave of injuries. Allen should normally continue to transcend tough matchups, but he has found himself confounded by Robert Saleh’s unit, including in a three-pick Week 1 performance. The ceiling never goes away. The Week 11 floor is just lower than usual. … How many more receiver injuries can Justin Herbert endure? At least for Week 10, the answer was “all of them” in his QB2 finish against the Lions. It would be a different story if Keenan Allen (shoulder) missed Sunday’s game against the Packers, but we doubt it will come to that. … Joe Burrow’s walking-wounded receiver corps has a brutal short-week matchup in the Ravens’ shutdown pass defense. Burrow is simply back to the point where you never bench him. Thursday evening’s 45.5 over/under provides hope for more than just a slobberknocker.
Bears coach Matt Eberflus continued to play dumb on Justin Fields’ (thumb) status before meekly admitting he would return against a Lions defense that can be drawn into shootouts. Fields had settled into a fantasy groove before his Week 6 injury. We would expect some fireworks. … Mired in a fantasy slump, Lamar Jackson hasn’t had his best days against Lou Anarumo’s Bengals defenses. His threat has also been deceptively singular this year, as Jackson has just two multi-score outings through the air. You aren’t benching Jackson, but you also aren’t counting on him to win your matchup this week. … This is probably too low for Sam Howell, who is the QB9 by average points on the season and QB6 over the past five weeks. He is the QB3 since Week 8. The imploded Giants aren’t standing in his Week 11 way. … Brock Purdy was back to the good life in Week 10, ripping the Jags in Deebo Samuel and Trent Williams’ return. Ceiling has been somewhat elusive, but the floor is rock steady, especially when his supporting cast is at full health. The Bucs are an extreme pass funnel.
You could argue this is too low for C.J. Stroud, though the Texans remain frustratingly run focused. Their pass rate over expected returned to the negative for Week 10. Now 4.5-point home favorites against a bad overall Cardinals defense, they could be all too content to go balanced. Nico Collins’ (calf) health is also worth monitoring. … This is too low for Jared Goff, but he never gets the ceiling benefit of the doubt. The floor should nevertheless be quite robust as a 7.5-point home favorite against a bad Bears defense. … Kyler Murray’s 2023 debut was successful by any reasonable measure. His legs looked ready for prime time and he was throwing deep more often than he did under Kliff Kingsbury. One-game sample size, of course. The Texans are a plus opposing matchup. … A horribly slumping Trevor Lawrence has provided multiple scores in just 2-of-9 starts. He is flunking the eye test and posting disappointing advanced metrics, checking in as the QB17 by EPA per play and QB10 on Pro Football Focus. He should awaken at some point, and the Titans would be a sensible place to start.
We finally got a usable effort from Geno Smith in Week 10. The Rams are not an imposing defense for Week 11, though they did shut Smith down in the opener. Smith remains QB2 safe even during his slumps and rough matchups because of the receiver trio at his disposal. … Josh Dobbs is the man of the hour, but he has a tough matchup in a Broncos defense fresh off wrecking both Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. He’s a safe QB2 because of his supporting cast and increasingly consistent rushing. Especially with Alexander Mattison battling a concussion, Dobbs’ legs should remain a Week 11 factor. … Wildly inconsistent Jordan Love has a great matchup in the Chargers’ consistently bad defense. Two scores is a reasonable expectation. … Russell Wilson has been held below 200 yards passing in five straight starts. Anyone who watched Monday evening’s Bills upset knows coach Sean Payton is terrified of his quarterback costing his team games. You are hoping for two touchdowns and not much else if firing Wilson up in a two-QB. … Will Levis was an embarrassing Week 10 whiff for my ranks, my worst in a long time. Let’s just say I had the young man on the wrong borderline.
