Player Overview
2023: Howell was deeply inefficient as triggerman of a curiously pass-first Washington offense. He managed 21 touchdowns and 21 picks over 17 games in a failed bid to establish himself as the team’s long-term starter. He ranked 24th among 32 qualifying quarterbacks in TD rate and 30th out of 32 in adjusted yards per attempt, dinking and dunking an overmatched Commanders offense down the field, often in negative game script. Howell managed some success on the ground with five rushing scores.
What’s changed: The Commanders in March traded Howell to the Seahawks in exchange for 2024 third and fifth-round picks.
Outlook: Seahawks coaches and front office officials have made it crystal clear that Howell will not compete for Week 1 starting duties with entrenched starter Geno Smith. That doesn’t mean Howell, still only 24, has no chance of seeing significant snaps in 2024. If the Seahawks’ season goes sideways and the team wants to see what they have in Howell as a long-term answer at quarterback, Geno will sit for the third-year signal caller. Howell can be taken as a bench stash in deeper superflex formats this summer.
