Player Overview
2023: The only thing 31-year-old Mostert had ever threatened to lead the league in before 2023 was games missed. So you could say it was a bit of a surprise when he scored 18 touchdowns on the ground, placing him three ahead of co-runners up Jalen Hurts and Josh Allen. It was also surprising that Mostert stayed largely healthy, missing only two games after that number was one in 2022. Mostert shined from both rush yards over expected and yards after contact perspectives.
What’s changed: It was an excellent season, but one that saw Mostert’s effectiveness wane late. He averaged 5.55 yards per carry for Weeks 1-9. That number fell to 4.07 from there on out. Mostert was far from the only Dolphin to finish poorly, but it draws more attention when you’re on the wrong side of 30. He nevertheless remains in the driver’s seat for goal-line duties ahead of De’Von Achane and rookie Jaylen Wright.
Outlook: It’s possible Achane will simply seize control of this backfield. It’s more likely the Dolphins will keep their pint-sized big-play threat situated in a 1B role that helps him avoid wear and tear. Mostert should score enough touchdowns to remain in the RB2 mix.
