Player Overview
2023: Leading the Lions to the NFC title game, Goff earned a monster contract extension with his efficient 2023 performance. He had the NFL’s third highest drop-back success rate -- trailing only Brock Purdy and Dak Prescott — and threw for 30 touchdowns and a dozen interceptions in a Detroit offense that established the run at every opportunity. Goff fed his best pass catchers — Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta — with high percentage throws throughout the season. He did, however, continue to struggle under any sort of pressure, a persistent bugaboo during his pro career.
What’s changed: Goff in May signed a four-year contract extension worth up to $212 million.
Outlook: Goff’s rate stats weren’t off the charts in 2023 — he had a reasonable five percent TD rate — so a repeat of last season’s success remains firmly in the cards with St. Brown and LaPorta at his disposal. The emergence of downfield speed demon Jameson Williams certainly won’t hurt Goff’s prospects. As long as the Lions offensive line can keep Goff clean in the pocket, he should be a reliable if unexciting fantasy option in 12-team leagues. The team’s insistence of running the ball with a lead could limit Goff’s weekly upside.
