Player Overview
2023: Johnson, after seeing more than 140 targets over the previous three seasons in Pittsburgh, saw a meager 92 looks from various Steelers quarterbacks in a slog-fest of an offense. Johnson scored six touchdowns last season after somehow scoring zero touchdowns in 2022 on 86 receptions. Running 78% of his routes from the outside, he continued to demonstrate an elite ability to get open, especially against zone coverage.
What’s changed: In the Panthers March acquired Johnson in a trade.
Outlook: Johnson immediately becomes the Panthers’ No. 1 receiver and he should be a reliable short area and intermediate target for second-year QB Bryce Young. That kind of role could come with major PPR benefits, though it’s (very) likely Carolina will be a stubbornly run-first team under new head coach Dave Canales. At worst, Johnson should offer a solid fantasy floor in the Panthers offense.
