Player Overview
2023: Do you have a minute? Why then-Falcons coach Arthur Smith decided to take No. 8 overall pick Robinson on an amazing journey remains unclear, but journey they did. It should not have been complicated in a run-first offense piloted by some of the worst quarterbacks in the league, but Smith gave Robinson more than 20 carries just once all season. It wasn’t for lack of merit. Robinson was 13th in yards per carry (4.56), 12th in average rush yards over expected and eighth in running back receptions (58). Smith simply had a fixed vision of a backfield committee and never wavered even as it cost his team yards and points.
What’s changed: Smith is gone but nuisance back Tyler Allgeier remains. Worrisome, but not the main offseason takeaway. That is Kirk Cousins’ arrival and a Rams-ified coaching staff, ushering in a more modern, pass-heavy system. The immensely improved overall offensive environment should empower Robinson’s time to shine after he generated 1,463 yards from scrimmage even amidst last year’s foolishness.
Outlook: Expect this offense to look more 2024 conventional, including limiting Allgeier to strict change-of-pace work. With more touches and touchdown opportunities practically guaranteed, Robinson’s all-around game is ready to shoot into the stratosphere.
