  • BOS Small Forward #30
According to Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe, the Celtics will exercise Sam Hauser’s team option for the 2024-25 season.
Boston lead executive Brad Stevens has made it clear that the team wants to keep Hauser, and this report aligns with that desire. Hauser is in line to make $2.1 million next season, and the decision to pick up his option allows the Celtics to negotiate an extension. Talks on an extension cannot begin until July 9, per league rules. Hauser provided Boston with reliable 3-point production as the team won the NBA championship this season, and he’ll have added value in 2024-25 due to Kristaps Porzingis likely missing 5-6 months after undergoing left leg surgery.
  • DEN Shooting Guard #3
Julian Strawther finished with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting, adding two rebounds, an assist and a pair of triples across 29 minutes in Sunday’s loss to the Celtics.
Strawther finished behind only Nikola Jokic (20 points) for team lead in the scoring department, and only Hunter Tyson (30 minutes) saw more playing time. Strawther is expected to see an expanded role in the upcoming season, and he’s worth a look in the later rounds of deeper leagues.
  • DEN Center #15
Nikola Jokic finished Sunday’s loss to Boston with 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three triples across 19 minutes.
Jokic led his team in scoring with a 7-of-13 mark from the field, and the reigning MVP bowed out of the Abu Dhabi preseason matchup after playing less than 20 minutes. He and Denver’s usual starters aren’t expected to do much heavy lifting before the regular season officially tips off, but this was a strong performance nonetheless.
  • GSW Shooting Guard #43
Lindy Waters tallied a team-high 15 points (5-of-7 FGs) with three rebounds, an assist, and a block to help the Golden State Warriors top the Los Angeles Clippers 91-90 on Saturday. All five of his made shots were three-pointers.
The Dubs acquired Waters from the Oklahoma City Thunder for the No. 52 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft over the summer. He shot 43.5% from beyond the arc in 2023-24 but could struggle to find regular opportunities given all other snipers at Golden State’s disposal.
  • LAC Power Forward #21
Kobe Brown posted 11 points (5-of-10 FGs) with nine rebounds, an assist, and two steals in his team’s loss to the Golden State Warriors on Saturday. He made one of his four attempts from long range.
Brown built on his strong Summer League showing with an impressive 2024 preseason debut. The second-year forward could be poised to step into a larger role after getting limited minutes as a rookie. He logged a game-high 27 minutes in Saturday’s contest.
  • LAC Point Guard #1
James Harden totaled a team-high 13 points (2-of-6 FGS, 8-of-8 FTs), eight assists, two rebounds, two steals in 17 minutes in the Los Angeles Clippers’ 91-90 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Saturday. He made one of his four three-point attempts.
Harden looked ready to take on a lead guard role ahead of the 2024-25 season. While he didn’t have the best shooting night, he got to the charity stripe and distributed the ball effectively. Fantasy managers should take note of his potential as a primary ball handler in his second campaign with the Clippers.
  • PHX Center #20
The Phoenix Suns announced Saturday that Jusuf Nurkic is set to miss his team’s Sunday preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers because of a middle finger injury. He’ll be evaluated in one week.
Nurkic posted 10.9 points and 11.1 rebounds and matched a career-high with 4.0 assists per game last season. The Suns’ coaching staff has expressed a desire to see him work on stretching the floor with outside shooting more this season. Whether his injured finger will affect that plan remains to be seen.
  • POR Shooting Guard #17
Shaedon Sharpe has been diagnosed with a small posterior labral tear in his left shoulder and will miss 4-6 weeks.
Sharpe was limited to 32 games last season due to a core muscle injury. Now, he’s back on the shelf. This time, it’s due to a small tear of his posterior labrum, and the Blazers announced that Sharpe would miss 4-6 weeks. Given the diagnosis, he’s only viable in deeper fantasy leagues allowing IL+ designations. As for who stands to benefit, Toumani Camara stands to pick up additional rotation minutes off the bench. While a starter for most of last season, Camara was expected to lose time due to the presence of Sharpe and the offseason acquisition of Deni Avdija. Avdija is expected to be a starter; Sharpe’s absence will also boost his value.
  • SAS Shooting Guard #5
Spurs veterans have only been complimentary of rookie guard Stephon Castle’s play during training camp.
Selected with the fourth overall pick, the hope for Castle is that he can combine with Victor Wembanyama to serve as critical pillars for the Spurs franchise moving forward. The former UConn standout is off to a good start, with multiple veterans praising him for his early adjustment to the NBA. “Man, Steph is so good,” Spurs guard Chris Paul said. “You can always tell some players when they came into the league how they were coached in college. You can tell Steph was well coached.” At first glance, he appeared to be a rookie who would be more valuable to fantasy managers later in the season if San Antonio fell out of contention for a postseason berth. However, Devin Vassell (foot) is unlikely to be ready for the start of the season, opening up a spot in the starting lineup. Castle and Julian Champagnie are two possibilities to fill the void, making that a competition to track when San Antonio opens its preseason schedule on Monday against the Thunder.
  • LAL Shooting Guard #9
Bronny James logged 16 minutes in Friday’s loss to the Timberwolves, amassing two points (1-of-6 FGs), one rebound, one assist, and three blocked shots.
James’ first preseason action was nondescript overall, an unsurprising development given his limited run during one season at USC. The defensive activity was a positive to take away from Friday night, as Bronny was rarely out of position and led the Lakers with three blocked shots. It’s doubtful he will help a fantasy roster this season, but watching him develop as a pro should be fun.
  • LAL Shooting Guard #4
Dalton Knecht played 24 minutes in Friday’s loss to Minnesota, accumulating 16 points (7-of-13 FGs), three rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block, and two 3-pointers.
The first-round pick out of Tennessee made his unofficial NBA debut on Friday, and he had a decent night in Palm Desert. Knecht shot 2-of-7 from beyond the arc, but that was as part of a rotation that lacked LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Playing off of those two stars should result in cleaner looks. That should also help with the turnovers, as Knecht committed five on Friday. More often than not, he’ll be in the role of “finisher,” either around the basket or in catch-and-shoot situations, so that high number should not concern fantasy managers too much.
