  • NBA Power Forward #7
In a recent interview, former Celtic Brian Scalabrine said, “He’s working out younger kids. I can see how there could be some advantages to having Carmelo Anthony on the roster. Not just the playing side.”
Scalabrine notes that Melo likely wouldn’t be a part of Boston’s regular rotation, but he could be a huge spark off the bench on nights when Al Horford or Robert Williams need to sit out for rest. Anthony shot 37.5% from beyond the arc a season ago, and the longtime veteran makes even more sense considering Danilo Gallinari’s recent ACL tear that leaves a void in Boston’s roster. Another recent report from MassLive indicates the Celtics aren’t interested in signing Anthony, but we wouldn’t slam the door completely. If Anthony signs with Boston, he could be used as a streamer throughout the season when it’s known that he’ll see some additional run, but Melo’s days of getting drafted in 12-team fantasy hoops leagues are over.

  • MIA Center #31
Thomas Bryant has re-signed with the Heat on a one-year deal, per Marc Stein.
  • WAS Center #00
Washington has signed Tristan Vukcevic to a two-way contract.
Vukcevic will be back with the Wizards after closing out last season with them. He may spend a lot of time to start the year in the G-League, with Jonas Valanciunas, Richaun Holmes and Marvin Bagley filling most of the center minutes. He has a ton of upside, and he is worth stashing in dynasty formats.
  • NBA Small Forward #3
Stanley Johnson has agreed to a contract with Anadolu Efes, per Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype.
Johnson last suited up in the NBA with the Spurs in February of 2023, and now he will join the team that has won two of the last four Euroleague championships. The former lottery pick may eventually work his way back over to the NBA, but he won’t make much of a fantasy impact.
  • FA Center #3
The Hornets have waived Marques Bolden, per a team announcement.
Bolden suited up in nine games for the Hornets last season, as well as two for Milwaukee. Bolden will have a chance to sign elsewhere, but he hasn’t proven himself to be a player worth keeping tabs on in any fantasy format.
  • PHX Shooting Guard #10
Damion Lee has agreed to return to Phoenix on a one-year contract, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
After missing all of last season, Lee will be back with the Suns despite declining his player option a few days ago. During the 2022-23 season, he averaged 8.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 triples in 20.4 minutes per game. He should play a role off the bench, but he isn’t a player that will make much of an impact in fantasy basketball.
  • LAL Coaching Staff
Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks have been hired as the Lakers’ top assistant coaches, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Lakers have surrounded JJ Redick with two former head coaches that have plenty of experience, which should hopefully help things go smoothly. Brooks has been an assistant in Portland the last few seasons, while McMillan’s last job was as the head coach of Atlanta up until he was fired in February of 2023. This is a strong coaching staff, and now it is on Redick to make it all work together.
  • GSW Coaching Staff
Terry Stotts and Jerry Stackhouse are planning to join Golden State’s coaching staff, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Before Stotts resigned, he held the title of assistant coach in Milwaukee heading into last season. Before that, he was the head coach in Portland for nearly a decade. Stackhouse has been the coach at Vanderbilt for the last five seasons, though that was a disappointing tenure. He had more success as the head coach of Raptors 905, where he won a championship and was the D-League Coach of the Year in 2017. They’ll both bring plenty of experience to Steve Kerr’s staff as they look to reload around Stephen Curry.
  • LAL Small Forward #23
LeBron James intends to re-sign with the Lakers on a two-year, $104 million deal with a player option after year one, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
In an unsurprising move, LeBron will be back with LA for at least two more seasons, unless he chooses to opt out after one year. He’ll have his son on his team and his podcast co-host at head coach, but nothing should change too much in fantasy. James will be 41 by the time this contract is up, so there is a chance that this is his final one. LeBron also has a no-trade clause, though it was unlikely that they dealt him anyway.
  • PHI Shooting Guard #17
The Warriors are in “serious talks” to acquire Buddy Hield in a sign-and-trade, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
The full details of what this move would look like aren’t clear, but it’s clear that the Warriors are wasting no time replacing Klay Thompson. They’ve also added De’Anthony Melton this week, so the non-Stephen Curry guard minutes will be hard to come by, especially with Brandin Podziemski and Moses Moody still in the mix currently. That will make things messy for fantasy managers looking to find value in Golden State, though it does provide them with plenty of depth.
  • MIN Small Forward #1
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Anderson is inking a three-year, $27 million deal with Golden State via sign-and-trade. The Dubs are sending the Minnesota Timberwolves a future second-round pick and cash in the for Anderson.
Anderson doesn’t have much fantasy appeal as a tweener who’ll likely back up Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green for stints. He averaged just 6.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists last season.
