Former Mavericks guard J.J. Barea officially announced his retirement from basketball on Wednesday, he told the Rival Times.
Barea last played for the Mavericks in 2020 before playing out the last two seasons in his native country of Puerto Rico. “I’m ready,” Barea said. Last year it worked my head and I wasn’t ready. This year yes and I am calm about finishing.” Barea played 11 seasons with the Mavericks from 2006-2011 and then from 2014-2020 with a three year stint with the Timberwolves from 2011-2014. He will finish with career averages of 8.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. Barea said that he would like to take a break from basketball before getting back involved, so don’t be surprised if he pops up on a sideline in the future.

  • SAC Small Forward #13

Keegan Murray (left ankle soreness) is out for Wednesday’s game against the 76ers.
No surprise here as Murray was listed as doubtful after suffering ankle soreness during Tuesday’s practice. Doug McDermott is likely to replace Murray in the lineup, though his fantasy value is limited to points and 3-pointers.
  • TOR Shooting Guard #5
Immanuel Quickley, Gradey Dick, Scottie Barnes, Ochai Agbaji, and Jakob Poeltl will start Wednesday’s game against the Nets.
The Raptors will have a new backcourt after getting blown out by the Celtics on Tuesday. Quickley and Dick return from their respective injuries, which pushes Davion Mitchell and Ja’Kobe Walter to the bench. Barnes, Agbaji, and Poeltl complete the quintet.
  • MIA Small Forward #22
Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, Jimmy Butler, Haywood Highsmith, and Bam Adebayo will start Wednesday’s game against the Pelicans.
Butler is back in the lineup after missing Miami’s last five games, dropping Kevin Love to the bench. Robinson, who did not play in Sunday’s win over the Rockets, is the other change. His return coincides with Terry Rozier’s one-game suspension, and Robinson should retain the starting role for the foreseeable future.
  • NYK Point Guard #11
Jalen Brunson (right calf tightness) is out for Wednesday’s game against the Jazz.
Despite playing through his calf injury in both of New York’s wins over Washington, Brunson will not play on Wednesday. He’ll be replaced in the starting lineup by Miles McBride, who’s worth streaming due to the opportunity and opponent.
  • OKC Shooting Guard #9
Alex Caruso (left hip strain) will not play in Thursday’s game against the Clippers.
Caruso has missed Oklahoma City’s last four games, and Thursday makes five. His absence has freed up minutes for Ajay Mitchell, who, while solid, has not done enough to merit streaming consideration in fantasy leagues.
  • NOP Point Guard #15
Jose Alvarado (left hamstring strain) is out for Wednesday’s game against Miami.
Alvarado is still not ready to return from his hamstring injury suffered in early November. Dejounte Murray and CJ McCollum are healthy, so his continued absence does not significantly impact fantasy basketball.
  • Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (left ankle sprain) is out for Wednesday’s game against the Heat.
Robinson-Earl also missed Monday’s game with an ankle injury. Daniel Theis will continue to see extra minutes in his absence, but isn’t worth streaming.
  • MIL Small Forward #22
Khris Middleton (bilateral ankle surgery) is probable for Thursday’s game against the Nets.
Middleton is probably going to be on the Bucks’ injury report for a while as he continues to work his way back from bilateral ankle surgery. Fortunately, with a probable injury designation, fantasy managers can continue to count on the 33-year-old small forward to suit up most nights.
  • MIA Shooting Guard #55
Duncan Robinson (right foot inflammation) is available for Wednesday’s game against the Pelicans.
Robinson is back after sitting out Sunday’s win over the Rockets. Terry Rozier, who replaced him in the lineup, has been suspended one game by the NBA, so Robinson should slide back into the starting lineup without issue.
  • MIL Power Forward #34
Giannis Antetokounmpo (right patellar tendinopathy) is probable for Thursday’s game against the Nets.
Antetokounmpo has been listed on numerous injury reports this season for this issue, but he has rarely missed a game because of patellar tendinopathy. The probable tag suggests he will be cleared to play against the Nets. If Giannis cannot play, Bobby Portis will move into the starting lineup.
