Coach Stan Van Gundy said Michael Gbinije can play three positions.
One of those positions is point guard, so the Pistons might only look to sign one free agent point guard behind Reggie Jackson. Gbinije was a fifth-year point guard, but there’s certainly a reason he slipped to 49 in the draft. He was a 39.2 percent shooter from deep in each of his last two seasons, so that might be something SVG can appreciate.

Pacers have acquired C Thomas Bryant from the Miami Heat in exchange for a future second-round pick swap, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
While the basketball world waits for a potential Jimmy Butler trade, the Heat are making a much less exciting move here. Bryant has been part of Miami’s big man rotation recently. He’s averaging 4.1 points per game and 3.2 rebounds per game in the 10 games he’s appeared in this season. This trade is likely more about the Pacers needing another big body than anything the Heat might have going with the potentially soon to be on the move Butler.
  • POR Center #26
Duop Reath (back soreness) is now questionable for Friday’s game against the Spurs.
Reath is trending in the right direction after starting the day listed as doubtful. With Deandre Ayton, Donovan Clingan and Robert Williams III all also listed as questionable, it remains to be seen how Portland’s big man rotation might shake out Friday. Reath doesn’t figure to have much of a fantasy impact, though.
  • BKN Small Forward #8
Cui Yongxi (torn left ACL) has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Signed to a two-way contract by the Nets just before the start of training camp, Cui suffered the ACL tear while playing for the team’s G League affiliate on December 11. His absence will not impact fantasy basketball, as the rookie was not in the Nets’ rotation when healthy.
  • DAL Power Forward #25
PJ Washington (illness) returned to Friday’s practice, according to Mavericks reporter Grant Afseth.
Washington sat out Tuesday’s NBA Cup quarterfinal loss to the Thunder, but he may be on track to return for Sunday’s matchup with Golden State. If Washington returns, Naji Marshall could see a reduced workload.
  • UTA Power Forward #23
Lauri Markkanen (low back injury management) and Jordan Clarkson (left plantar fasciitis) are probable for Friday’s matchup with Phoenix.
Markkanen appeared in Utah’s last game, though he’s missed two of the last six. Clarkson has missed seven in a row, but he’s poised to return. Markkanen should be expected to handle a typical workload, though Clarkson could see a lighter workload after such a long layoff.
  • LAL Shooting Guard #15
Austin Reaves (left pelvic contusion) is probable for Friday’s matchup with Minnesota.
Reaves has been out for five straight games, but he’s trending in the right direction ahead of Friday’s tilt with the Wolves. If he ultimately takes the court, Gabe Vincent or Max Christie could slide back to the bench.
  • NOP Shooting Guard #3
CJ McCollum led the Pelicans with 36 points (14-of-24 FGs), three rebounds, three assists and six 3-pointers in a 111-109 loss to the Kings on Thursday.
McCollum got hot late in this game and nearly helped the Pelicans pull off the comeback. He scored 17 of his season-high 36 points in the fourth quarter, with 14 of those coming in the final five minutes of the game. With Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson sidelined indefinitely, McCollum will continue to be one of their primary scoring options. He may not have big nights like this consistently, but he is certainly capable of getting hot in a hurry. He’ll look to help the team end their losing streak in Indiana on Sunday.
  • NOP Small Forward #25
Trey Murphy lit up Sacramento with 21 points (6-of-13 FGs), four rebounds, one steal and three 3-pointers on Thursday.
Murphy got off to a hot start in his game and scored 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the first quarter. However, over the final three quarters, Murphy had just five points on 1-of-6 FGs. He wasn’t able to build on his strong start, and the team wasn’t able to help him get good looks. Murphy has had a solid year, but they’re going to rely on him even more moving forward with Brandon Ingram set to miss an extended period of time.
  • SAC Small Forward #10
DeMar DeRozan lit up the Pelicans with 29 points (8-of-18 FGs, 10-of-11 FTs), four rebounds, two assists, four steals and three 3-pointers on Thursday.
DeRozan’s production hasn’t taken much of a hit in his first year in Sacramento, but this game was unique. He was able to make a big impact in categories that he has traditionally been weak in. He posted season-highs in both steals and 3-pointers in this game, though he still did plenty of work at the free throw line, which is more typical for him. DeRozan will continue to be a top-50 player in 9-cat leagues moving forward, but managers shouldn’t get accustomed to him providing steals and 3-pointers at this rate.
  • SAC Point Guard #5
De’Aaron Fox posted a full line on Thursday with 18 points (7-of-20 FGs), seven rebounds, eight assists, one steal, one block, one triple and five turnovers against the Pelicans.
Fox had a poor shooting night, but he was still able to record a well-rounded stat line. This was their third straight win, and they’ll look to make it four in a row against the Nuggets on Monday, which would be their longest streak of the year. Fox’s 3-point percentage is down in comparison to last year, but his field goal and free throw percentage are both up from last season. He’ll continue to be one of the premier fantasy hoops options, but he hasn’t played his best yet.
