Fantasy Basketball Pickups: Spencer Dinwiddie shining as starter

Does Hawks' Risacher warrant fantasy attention?
Dan Titus, Raphielle Johnson and Noah Rubin analyze Atlanta Hawks rookie Zaccharie Risacher, debating whether the No. 1 overall pick from the 2024 NBA Draft warrants fantasy attention.

Dallas played Monday’s game without Kyrie Irving, who was sidelined with a shoulder injury. With Luka Doncic set to miss at least a month with a hip injury, Jason Kidd has had to turn to other options for offense. Spencer Dinwiddie (24% rostered in Yahoo leagues) got his second straight start, and he should be part of the starting unit moving forward. Dinwiddie scored 30 points and added six assists in their loss to the Kings on Monday. They only have two more games this week, and there is no reason to think that Irving will remain out for Wednesday’s game in Houston. However, Dinwiddie should be locked in as part of the team’s starting unit moving forward, and he has averaged 20.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.5 threes per game in his four starts this season. He won’t drop 30 consistently, but he should be worth streaming moving forward.

Yves Missi- 37%

The rookie continues to put up big numbers for New Orleans, and he was able to set a new career-high for blocks on Monday with five. The rookie remains undervalued in 9-cat leagues because he hasn’t contributed value consistently outside of rebounds, blocks and field goal percentage. However, his role is safe, and while he will have some poor performances from time to time (as 20-year-olds do), the numbers look great when he has things clicking. They still have three more games this week.

Scotty Pippen Jr.- 34%

Ja Morant is being considered “week-to-week” with his shoulder injury, which means that Pippen Jr. will be the starting point guard in Memphis for at least a few games. Memphis has three games this week, starting in Phoenix on Tuesday. He has averaged 14.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.3 threes per game in his 12 starts this season. The schedule isn’t an advantage, as they play three games next week and the week after as well. However, it certainly doesn’t put him at a disadvantage, and he’ll be worth rostering as long as Morant is sidelined.

Ja’Kobe Walter- 1%

RJ Barrett (illness) has been ruled out for Tuesday’s game, and Gradey Dick (hamstring) is on the injury report as questionable. That will open up at least one starting spot on the wing, which may be filled by the rookie. In his most recent start, Walter tallied career-highs of 27 points and six 3-pointers. He doesn’t contribute in many categories, but he can get hot in a hurry from beyond the arc. They’ll play the second night of a back-to-back on Wednesday, which means that Walter could see two starts if Barrett or Dick miss both legs.

Johnny Juzang- less than 1%

Juzang got the starting nod in place of John Collins on Monday, replacing rookie Cody Williams, who started the game before. Juzang played much better as a starter than Williams did and contributed 14 points in 23 minutes. It’s unclear if Collins will miss more time, or if Juzang will continue to start if he does. However, the Jazz have three more games this week, so if the stars align, he could be worth a pickup in deeper leagues.
