Nick Kurtz went 1-for-4 with an RBI to help the Athletics to a 5-2 win over the Rangers on Wednesday.
Kurtz got his first RBI and first hit in his first at-bat in the first inning. A lot of firsts. The 22-year-old is one of the best hitting prospects in the sport, and while he went hitless in his other three at-bats, he’s absolutely worthy of roster consideration for those who need help in the corner infield.

Diamondbacks placed RHP Christian Montes De Oca on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.
Montes De Oca will presumably undergo some additional testing to determine the severity of the issue after suffering the injury on Monday. The 25-year-old righty is likely facing an extended absence, even in a best-case scenario.
Fantasy expectations for Red Sox's Anthony
Primed to hit in the middle of Boston's lineup, top prospect Roman Anthony appears set to deliver raw power and a selective approach for the Red Sox and fantasy managers moving forward.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #63
Diamondbacks placed RHP Justin Martinez on the 15-day injured list with a UCL sprain in his right elbow.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters they’re waiting for a second opinion on his MRI results before deciding on his future. The hard-throwing 23-year-old closer was lifted from Monday’s relief outing against the Mariners with elbow tightness and is facing a lengthy absence, even if he elects to proceed with a rest and rehabilitation route instead of surgery.
  • PIT Relief Pitcher #27
Pirates re-signed RHP Tanner Rainey to a minor league contract.
Rainey elected free agency last week after being cut loose from Pittsburgh’s active roster. The 32-year-old veteran reliever is back in the fold as extra organizational relief depth at Triple-A Indianapolis.
  • HOU Left Fielder #44
Yordan Alvarez (hand) has yet to resume swinging a bat.
Alvarez was diagnosed with a small fracture in his right hand back in late May when he was still experiencing discomfort while swinging a bat. The Astros can’t afford to take any chances with their primary middle-of-the-order force, so they’re not going to rush him back and risk any setbacks. There isn’t an official return timetable yet, but fantasy managers shouldn’t anticipate Alvarez returning until some point in July.
  • TOR Center Fielder #38
Nathan Lukes has been scratched from Tuesday’s lineup with neck discomfort.
It’ll be Alan Roden moving over to right field with Jonatan Clase handling left field and Myles Straw entering the lineup in center field. The 30-year-old defensive specialist is presumably day-to-day for now.
  • LAD Catcher #68
Dalton Rushing is in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Padres.
It’s an off-night for starter Will Smith with Rushing handling the catching duties and batting ninth. The 24-year-old top prospect is hitting .212/.235/.333 with one homer and seven RBI across 10 games since being called up back in mid-May from Triple-A Oklahoma City. He’d have some appeal for fantasy purposes in an everyday role, but that isn’t happening with Smith still healthy and in his prime.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #58
Lou Trivino will open Tuesday’s contest against the Padres.
It’ll be a bullpen game for Los Angeles on Tuesday night with Matt Sauer functioning in a bulk relief role. Trivino will handle the opening frame to face a couple tough hitters atop San Diego’s lineup.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #18
Shota Imanaga (hamstring) will make another minor league rehab start on Saturday.
Imanaga struck out four over two scoreless innings on Monday in his first rehab outing in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League. The 31-year-old southpaw is working his way back from a hamstring strain and will likely need a couple additional tune-up outings before returning to Chicago’s rotation. There’s a decent chance he’s back before the end of June or early July.
  • TEX Relief Pitcher #46
Rangers signed RHP Craig Kimbrel to a minor league contract.
Kimbrel will get an opportunity to keep his career going after being cut loose earlier this week by Atlanta after just one outing back in the big leagues. The 37-year-old veteran stopper is unlikely to factor into Texas’ closing mix, especially considering he was averaging 92 mph on his fastball in his return to the big leagues. We’re not willing to rule out the possibility that he makes it to the club’s relief mix at some point.
  • ARI Catcher #14
Gabriel Moreno (hand) is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Mariners.
Moreno is back handling the catching duties and batting eighth following a three-game absence with hand inflammation after taking a wild pitch off his throwing hand during Friday’s game against the Reds.
