Robbie Ray gave up two runs over five innings Monday in a no-decision against the Brewers.
Ray had an encouraging spring, but he’s given up five homers and walked 18 batters in 24 1/3 innings over his first five regular-season starts. His 4.07 ERA isn’t bad, but nothing so far has suggested he’s about to start performing better. He’ll face the Rangers next.

Marlins recalled RHP Ryan Gusto from Triple-A Jacksonville.
Gusto draws the starting assignment for Friday’s series opener against the Blue Jays after the Marlins decided to move on from veteran Cal Quantrill. The 26-year-old righty struck out eight over six innings last weekend against Atlanta in a spot start. He’s interesting for fantasy purposes, especially in deeper mixed leagues, but we’re advising more of a wait-and-see approach for now.
Rangers skipping deGrom's next start is 'ominous'
James Schiano analyzes the Rangers skipping Jacob deGrom's next start due to shoulder fatigue, sharing why it is "hard not to be terrified" that this update "could be the end to a fantastic comeback season" for deGrom.
  • COL 3rd Baseman #12
Kyle Karros (back) is in the lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Pirates.
Karros is back at the hot corner and batting fifth on Friday night following a two-game absence due to back tightness. The 23-year-old rookie hit his first career homer earlier this week and is batting .270 (10-for-37) with five RBI in 12 games since arriving in the big leagues earlier this month.
  • COL 1st Baseman #25
Warming Bernabel (face) is not in the lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Pirates.
Bernabel will get some extra time off to rest and recover after being struck in the face by a throw during pregame infield drills. It’ll be Orlando Arcia taking over at the cold corner in his absence.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #58
Rockies selected the contract of LHP Lucas Gilbreath from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Gilbreath returns to Colorado’s bullpen prior to Friday’s game against the Pirates. He made just three relief appearances earlier this season for the Rockies in his return from last year’s Tommy John surgery.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #57
Rockies recalled RHP Angel Chivilli from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Chivilli returns to Colorado’s relief corps prior to Friday’s series opener against the Pirates. The 23-year-old righty has struggled to a 7.29 ERA across 42 innings (30 appearances) this season in the big leagues.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #52
Rockies placed RHP Dugan Darnell on the 15-day injured list with left hip inflammation.
Darnell was called up earlier this month and compiled a respectable 3.86 ERA across 11 2/3 innings (nine appearances) in his first taste of the big leagues.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #26
    Rockies released LHP Austin Gomber.
Gomber has been officially cut loose after passing through waivers unclaimed earlier this week. The 31-year-old southpaw was the centerpiece of the ill-fated Nolan Arenado trade with the Cardinals back in 2021 and never quite blossomed into a front-of-the-rotation arm. He struggled to a bloated 7.49 ERA across 57 2/3 innings (12 starts) this season. He was lit up for seven runs over three innings on Tuesday against the Dodgers in his final start with the Rockies.
  • TEX Center Fielder #32
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Friday that Evan Carter has been diagnosed with a fractured right wrist and will likely miss the remainder of the season.
It’s a brutal development for the Rangers, and fantasy managers, as Carter was in the midst of a strong season — when healthy. The 22-year-old former top prospect, who suffered the injury on Thursday when he was hit by a pitch, will likely miss the final five weeks of the season and finishes with a .728 OPS with five homers and 14 steals in 63 games. He’s shown flashes of immense fantasy potential over the last few years, but continues to be snake-bitten by injuries.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #88
Giants recalled LHP Carson Whisenhunt from Triple-A Sacramento.
Whisenhunt is not a recommended streaming option for fantasy purposes when he faces the red-hot Brewers on Friday night. The 24-year-old lefty will replace an injured Landen Roupp (knee) in San Francisco’s rotation over the final five weeks. He offers enough strikeout potential to be worth monitoring in deeper mixed leagues, but he’s more of a wait-and-see prospect in shallow formats.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #65
Giants placed RHP Landen Roupp on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to August 21, with left knee inflammation.
The extremely encouraging development here is that it appears Roupp didn’t suffer a more serious knee injury when he had to be carted off the field during Wednesday’s start against the Padres. The 26-year-old righty is likely done for the remainder of the season, but the fact that an initial MRI didn’t reveal an ACL tear or structural damage puts him on track to be ready for spring training. He’ll likely undergo further testing, but the initial diagnosis is encouraging.
