Rotoworld

  • BAL Shortstop #2

Gunnar Henderson homered, doubled and walked twice in Saturday’s win over the Reds.
The homer would have left just six ballparks, but it was scalded at 106 mph and traveled 395 feet. All three of his balls in play were hard-hit line drives today, so it seems like he’s found his swing after struggling some in his first week back from a rib-cage strain.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #18

Shota Imanaga (hamstring) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday and went through running/fielding drills.
He will repeat a similar workout over the weekend and then could potentially begin a rehab assignment. He’s been on the IL since May 5th, so he will likely need to make a few rehab starts before being cleared. That puts him on track for a late June return, and gives Ben Brown and Cade Horton more time to battle for the final spot in the Cubs rotation.
Vest emerging as Tigers closer going forward
Eric Samulski dives into the closer-by-committee situation with the Detroit Tigers, sharing why Will Vest is likely the "primary option" after picking up his seventh save of the season.
  • TEX Left Fielder #32
Evan Carter (quad) did some sprinting on Wednesday and will begin a rehab assignment this weekend.
Carter had already resumed some baseball activities, so sprinting was the next step before clearing him for a rehab assignment. The 22-year-old has struggled since being promoted from Triple-A earlier in the season, but the Rangers will likely continue to give him opportunities once he’s played a few rehab games.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #41
Spencer Arrighetti (thumb) has resumed playing catch.
Arrighetti has been on the injured list since early in April when he fractured his thumb after being hit by a line drive. Since then, the Astros have also lost both Hayden Wesneski and Ronel Blanco for the season. The team is likely desperate to get Arrighetti back in the rotation, but he will need to throw a few bullpens first before being cleared for a rehab assignment. An early July return feels likely.
  • MIA Shortstop #9
Xavier Edwards (back) will begin his rehab assignment today with Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday.
Interestingly, will play second base on Thursday, and “Miami plans for him to move there and keep Otto Lopez at shortstop when Edwards is reinstated from the IL.” Edwards has a -6 Outs Above Average this season at shortstop and was -10 last year, so this seems to be the right move.
  • BAL Right Fielder #9
Tyler O’Neill (shoulder) has resumed baseball activities and is close to beginning a rehab assignment.
O’Neill has been on the injured list since May 18th with a shoulder impingement and had previously been on the IL with a neck injury that may be connected. The 29-year-old likely won’t need too long in the minors on his rehab assignment, and with Colton Cowser (thumb) also coming back soon, Heston Kjerstad may find himself back in the minors soon.
  • ATL Right Fielder #13
Ronald Acuña Jr. is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of the doubleheader against the Phillies on Thursday.
There doesn’t appear to be anything to see her other than a routine rest game. We’d expect Acuña Jr. to be in the lineup for Game 2. Stuart Fairchild will start in right field and bat seventh with Eli White playing for Alex Verdugo in left field against a left-handed starter.
  • PHI 1st Baseman #3
Bryce Harper (elbow) is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of the doubleheader against the Phillies on Thursday but feels good and “could play Game 2 tonight.”
Harper exited Tuesday’s game when he was hit on the elbow by a Spencer Strider fastball. His X-rays came back negative, and it seems like he’ll return either tonight or for the weekend series against the Brewers. Alec Bohm will shift to first base for Game 1 of the doubleheader, with Edumundo Sosa entering the lineup at third base.
  • ATH Center Fielder #33
JJ Bleday went 4-for-5 with a double, a stolen base, one RBI, and a run scored for Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.
Bleday is now 6-for-9 with a home run, a steal, and three RBI in his two minor league games. Meanwhile, Denzel Clarke struck out four times on Wednesday and has 13 strikeouts in 17 MLB plate appearances. It seems likely that we see Bleday back up for Clarke in the next few weeks.
  • LAA 2nd Baseman #87
Angels 2B prospect Christian Moore went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored for Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday.
The Angels’ top prospect is now 13-for-31 (.419) in eight games at Triple-A with one home run, 10 RBI, and three steals. He does have a 10/6 K/BB ratio with an 11 percent swinging strike rate, but neither of those is too egregious. The Angels have always been aggressive in promoting their prospects, so it’s not crazy to think we see Moore get a shot at the big league level sometime in June.
  • SEA Shortstop #92
Mariners SS prospect Cole Young went 5-for-6 with two runs and two RBI for Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.
Young is the Mariners’ 2nd-ranked prospect and the 43rd-ranked prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. The 21-year-old is hitting .277/.384/.465 in 52 games at Triple-A this season with five home runs, four steals, and a 28/27 K/BB ratio. The Mariners have J.P. Crawford entrenched at shortstop for this season, but it seems likely that Young will be starting there by 2026 at the latest.
