Ke’Bryan Hayes is not in the starting lineup for Friday’s battle against the Guardians.
Hayes will get a day of rest — at least to begin Friday’s contest — as he’s picked up just three hits over his last seven games. He’ll get a breather while Jared Triolo plays third base and hits seventh.

Geraldo Perdomo hit a grand slam to help the Diamondbacks to an 8-2 win over the Padres on Wednesday.
Perdomo turned a 2-0 game into a 6-0 lead with one swing of the bat. It was one of three homers that Arizona was able to hit in the game against Cease, and it was the 10th roundtripper of the year for Perdomo while bumping his RBI total to 64. Perdomo has shown flashes of fantasy brilliance in 2024, and there’s plenty of reason to think he’ll be a solid — if maybe unspectacular — option for the final 70-plus games.
Smoltz talks transition to golf from baseball
Eight-time MLB All-Star John Smoltz sits down with Dan Patrick to discuss his transition from the mound to the golf course, his relationship with social media, and the changing usage of pitchers in the league.
  • SD 1st Baseman #30
Gavin Sheets hit a solo homer but the Padres were blown out Wednesday by the Diamondbacks.
Sheets ripped a solo homer off an otherwise-effective Brandon Pfaadt to get the Padres to within four runs at 6-2. The 29-year-old’s breakout season has seen him go deep 14 times with 50 RBI before the All-Star break, but it’s worth pointing out that his numbers have dropped considerably over the past few weeks. It’s very plausible that will continue after the break.
  • ARI 3rd Baseman #28
Eugenio Suárez hit a solo homer to help the Diamondbacks to a blowout win over the Padres.
What a season it’s been for Suárez. The 33-year-old has now homered 29 times on the season, and the RBI gives him 75 before the All-Star Game; an event Suárez will be playing in next week. He’ll enter that event as a Diamondback barring something unforeseeable, but there’s a pretty decent chance he’ll be playing of a different team by the end of the month.
  • ARI Center Fielder #7
Corbin Carroll hit a solo homer in a blowout win Wednesday over the Padres.
Carroll hit one of four homers in the game for the D-backs in the ninth inning to give Arizona an 8-2 lead. The 24-year-old also struck out four times, and his .250 average is a little on the disappointing side. His 21 homers have definitely helped compensate for that ‘low’ average.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #32
Brandon Pfaadt worked eight innings while allowing just two runs in a win over the Padres on Wednesday.
Pfaadt didn’t have his usual swing-and-miss stuff Wednesday, but it might have been a good thing. It allowed to be as efficient has he’s been in a while, as he needed just 99 pitches to get through his eight frames while allowing four hits; one of those a solo homer by Gavin Sheets. The 26-year-old is now 9-6 on the season, albeit with an ERA of 5.16. His next start will come after the All-Star break against the Cardinals or Astros.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #84
Dylan Cease allowed six runs in six innings while being charged with a loss to the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
With the lose, Cease is now 3-9 on the season, and while he has not been immune to a hard-luck loss or two, it’s fair to say he’s earned that record. He allowed three homers in this one, with the biggest blow being a grand slam from Geraldo Perdomo. The 29-year-old did strike out eight, but it’s hard to call this anything more than another disappointing outing for the right-hander. His track record suggests he’ll be a better option after the break.
  • CLE 2nd Baseman #1
Angel Martinez swatted a solo homer in the Guardians’ win over the Astros on Wednesday.
Martinez gave the Guardians an early 1-0 lead with a solo homer off Brandon Walter in the first inning. The 23-year-old is slashing a less-than-desirable .238/.264/.381 in 2025, but there have been enough good moments — including seven homers — to suggest that he can be a useable fantasy option in the coming years.
  • CLE 3rd Baseman #11
José Ramírez hit a solo homer, stole a base and scored twice to help the Guardians top the Astros on Wednesday by a 4-2 score.
On the day it was announced that Ramírez won’t be participating in the All-Star Game, the 32-year-old showed why he deserves to go with his 17th homer of the season. The steal was the 25th of the season, and he’s now slashing a robust .301/.366/.512 over 88 games. Ramírez will enjoy a deserved week off, but he remains one of the best players in the sport whether he attends the event or not.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #34
Paul Sewald worked the ninth inning and fired a scoreless inning to gave a save Wednesday against the Astros.
Before anyone panics, Emmanuel Clase had worked in three-straight games, and wasn’t available. No closer controversy here. Sewald isn’t long removed from being an effective closer for the Mariners and a brief moment of it with Arizona, but Clase will get the overwhelming majority of save chances for the remainder of the year.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #60
Brandon Walter allowed only two runs over six innings and still picked up a loss to the Guardians on Wednesday.
Walter surrendered just two hits, but both hits were solo homers in the first inning. With Slade Cecconi pitching exceptionally for his seven frames, that was enough to give him his second loss of the year. The 28-year-old whiffed seven, and didn’t issue a free pass in a very solid outing; just one that comes with an L instead of a W. His next start will come in around a week after the All-Star break.
