Dean Kremer allowed four hits and one earned run with one walk and two strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in a win over the Guardians on Wednesday.
This was as classic a Dean Kremer start as can be. He mixed his five pitches relatively evenly, stayed around the edges of the zone, and while he didn’t miss many bats, he barely gave up any hard contact either. His splitter was his primary pitch, but it wasn’t very effective as he practically never threw it in the zone and the Guardians rarely chased it either. So, he wound up in many deep counts without much damage being done against him. He’s lined up for a two-start week coming up against the Nationals and Tigers.

He’ll be joined on the National League bench by Pete Alonso, Corbin Carroll, Elly De La Cruz, Brendan Donovan, Hunter Goodman, Matt Olson, Kyle Schwarber, Kyle Stowers, Eugenio Suarez and Fernando Tatis Jr.

He’ll be joined on the American League staff by fellow starting pitchers Max Fried, Hunter Brown, Kris Bubic, Garrett Crochet, Jacob deGrom, Yusei Kikuchi, Shane Smith and Bryan Woo. They’ll be joined by relievers Andres Munoz, Aroldis Chapman and Josh Hader.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #30
Pirates’ ace Paul Skenes was named to his second consecutive National League All-Star squad on Sunday.
The star 23-year-old right-hander headlines a pitching staff that will also feature fellow starting pitchers Zack Wheeler, Matthew Boyd, Freddy Peralta, MacKenzie Gore, Chris Sale, Logan Webb, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Robbie Ray and Clayton Kershaw who was named as a legend pick by commissioner Rob Manfred. They’ll be joined by relievers Edwin Diaz, Jason Adam and Randy Rodriguez.
  • NYY Right Fielder #99
Aaron Judge went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI against the Mets on Sunday.
Judge’s home run was No. 33 for him on the year. The 33-year-old outfielder crushed a two-run home run in the fifth inning off Brandon Waddell to put the Yankees up 5-0. Judge suffered a cut near his eye on Saturday after he was hit in the face by a throw from Anthony Volpe between innings, but showed no ill effects Sunday. He’s hitting .360 with a 1.202 OPS and 74 RBI on the year as he goes for his third American League Most Valuable Player award.
  • NYY Catcher #28
Austin Wells went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI against the Mets on Sunday.
Wells’ home run was No. 13 on the season for him. The 25-year-old catcher belted a solo home run in the third inning off Zach Pop to get the Yankees on the scoreboard. Wells added another RBI on a ground out in the fourth inning. He’s hitting .220 on the year, but has provided power with 13 home runs and 48 RBI.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #38
Devin Williams tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Mets on Sunday.
Williams’ save was No. 12 on the year for him. It appears the 30-year-old right-hander is continuing to separate himself from Luke Weaver at the backend of the Yankees bullpen. Weaver has allowed eight runs and four home runs in seven appearances since returning from the injured list while Williams has converted his last eight save opportunities.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #54
Max Fried allowed three runs in five innings and got the win in the Yankees’ 6-4 victory over the Mets on Sunday.
Fried gave up six hits, walked one and struck out five. The 31-year-old left-hander’s pitch count got up to 98 after five innings and the Yankees elected to go to the bullpen. Fried had completed at least six innings in his last six starts entering play Sunday. He has a 2.27 ERA and 111/24 K/BB ratio in 119 innings this year. Fried is lined up to face the Cubs at home next weekend.
