Hayes’ revamped swing, designed to take some pressure off his troublesome back, is producing quite a bit of hard contact; he has a 52 percent hard-hit rate and he’s doing a better job of getting the ball into the air than usual. That he’s also attempting some steals (3-for-3 so far) makes him of some interest in shallow leagues. There are certainly worse stopgaps out there.

Bruihl joins Toronto’s relief corps ahead of Tuesday’s game against the White Sox with Nick Sandlin hitting the injured list with elbow inflammation. The 28-year-old lefty has made four relief appearances this season for the Blue Jays. He’ll operate in low-leverage spots.

It certainly doesn’t sound good, but there’s no official word from Toronto regarding the severity of the issue. The 28-year-old righty will presumably undergo further evaluation and testing to determine how much time he’s going to miss. The 28-year-old righty has compiled a strong 2.20 ERA and 16/8 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings (19 appearances). It’s his second trip to the injured list this season during his Blue Jays debut.

Severino spent last year on Minnesota’s 40-man roster, but was never summoned to the big leagues. The 25-year-old first baseman has been cut loose after hitting .196 with two homers and one steals over 33 games this season for Triple-A St. Paul.

The saga continues. San Francisco is attempting to work Devers into their cold corner rotation at some point in the second half, but lingering injury issues have prevented him from taking reps at the spot of late. The 28-year-old has never played the position at any point during his professional career. There’s zero indication that the issue will warrant a trip to the injured list, but it has impacted his mobility and will prevent him from playing the field for at least another week, if not longer.

Harris sits for the second straight game with Stuart Fairchild getting the nod in center field on Tuesday night out in Sacramento. The 24-year-old’s ongoing struggles have continued in recent weeks as he’s hitting .122 (6-for-49) with zero homers and two steals over his last 15 games. He hasn’t homered since June 13. It’s not what you want to see.

Díaz returns to the majors for the first time since late April. The hard-throwing 28-year-old former closer fell out of favor in Cincinnati after six abysmal appearances to open the year after battling injuries and mechanical issues during spring training. He hasn’t pitched a ton at Triple-A Oklahoma City since being traded to Los Angeles, but the club is ready to give him a look, presumably in low-leverage spots.

Fernández returns to the minors after tossing two innings on Monday in his Dodgers debut. The 29-year-old lefty figures to rejoin Los Angeles’ ever-changing relief mix at some point later this month.

Jiménez augments Texas’ organizational relief depth after spending the last few months in the independent Mexican League. The 31-year-old righty was in camp this spring with Atlanta and didn’t make the club’s season-opening roster. He was a key component of the Athletics’ relief mix the previous three seasons, recording 13 saves to accompany a respectable 3.89 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 80/51 K/BB ratio across 83 1/3 innings (84 appearances), before being non-tendered last offseason.

Gil will make his first minor league rehab start on Sunday at Double-A Somerset. The 27-year-old reigning American League Rookie of the Year will need a handful of tune-up outings before he rejoins New York’s rotation. He figures to be ready to go at some point in early August.

The story largely remains the same for Suwinski. He boasts impressive raw power potential, but continues to strike out at astronomical rates, which eliminates any shot of him emerging as an everyday player at the highest level. The 26-year-old slugging outfielder joins Pittsburgh’s bench mx ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Royals after putting up 12 homers in 53 games this season at the Triple-A level. He’ll continue to get chances, but he’ll need to cut back on the strikeouts to make it in the big leagues.
