Braves recalled RHP Micael Petersen from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Peterson gets the call to augment Atlanta’s relief depth in advance of Sunday’s series finale against the Rays. The 30-year-old righty was acquired earlier this month from the Angels and figures to be an up-and-down middle relief option for the Braves in the coming months.
  • KC 1st Baseman #14

Royals 1B/OF prospect Jac Caglianone is hitting .346 (9-for-26) with five home runs in six games since being promoted to Triple-A Omaha.
Caglianone launched a pair of homers, including a gargantuan 459-foot blast, on Sunday and is up to five round-trippers over his last four games. The 22-year-old slugging prospect, who was selected sixth overall in the 2024 MLB Draft following a standout collegiate career at Florida, would likely experience some turbulence during his first taste of the majors if the Royals were to promote him soon. However, he would represent an offensive upgrade at several spots in their current lineup. His time is coming and he’s one of the few prospects fantasy managers in re-draft formats should be stashing, even in relatively shallow mixed leagues.
Top prospect Clarke to be called up by Athletics
Following the Atheltics' announcement that they are calling up prized outfield Denzel Clarke, James Schiano discusses what the toolsy prospect with "blazing speed" will bring to the pro level.
  • TEX Left Fielder #32
Evan Carter (quad) took live batting practice on Monday at Globe Life Field.
Carter is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment at some point this week as he progresses towards returning from a Grade 2 quad strain that sent him to the injured list back on May 18. There’s an opportunity for the former top prospect to play regularly once he’s healthy with Joc Pederson on the injured list with a fractured hand.
  • FA 2nd Baseman #6
    Diamondbacks released INF Ildemaro Vargas.
Vargas opted out of his minor league contract with the Diamondbacks after spending spring training with the club as a non-roster invitee. The 33-year-old’s experience and defensive versatility should enable him to latch on somewhere as extra depth at the Triple-A level, if he intends to continue his playing career.
  • PHI 1st Baseman #53
Phillies signed 1B Alex Binelas to a minor league contract.
One of the ancillary components of the ill-fated Hunter Renfroe trade with the Brewers back in 2021, Binelas was cut loose last week by the Red Sox after never making it to Fenway Park. He recorded a solid .823 OPS in 13 games this season for Triple-A Worcester before being jettisoned. The 25-year-old former third-round pick from the 2021 MLB Draft will head to Philadelphia for a fresh start.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #47
Frankie Montas (lat) allowed two runs over 1 1/3 innings on Saturday in a minor league rehab start for High-A Brooklyn.
Montas threw 37 pitches (20 strikes) in his first rehab outing. He figures to return to New York’s rotation for his season debut before the end of June. He’ll need a handful of additional rehab starts to continue building up his pitch count and stamina. The 32-year-old veteran righty signed a two-year, $34 million contract with the Mets in the offseason and suffered a high-grade lat strain during his first bullpen session in spring training.
  • MIA Left Fielder #54
Dane Myers (oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A Jacksonville.
There might not be a spot for Myers in Miami’s crowded outfield mix with with prospect Victor Mesa Jr. ascending to the big leagues earlier this week. Yet, he’s close to making it back after hitting the shelf back in mid-May with a right oblique strain.
  • MIA Shortstop #9
Xavier Edwards (back) has resumed baseball activities.
Edwards hit the injured list back in mid-May with a back strain. There’s no timetable for his return at the moment, but it’s a positive update that he’s making some recent progress. The 25-year-old speedster should rejoin Miami’s nucleus at some point in June.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #99
Taijuan Walker will start for the Phillies on Friday against the Brewers.
Friday is Aaron Nola’s normal spot in the rotation, and Nola is eligible to come off the IL on that day, but it appears he will miss at least one more turn in the rotation. Walker wasn’t great in his start in Coors Field last week, but he sets up as a decent streamer against the Brewers this weekend.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #36
Joe Boyle was pulled from his start at Triple-A Durham on Monday while dealing with diminished velocity.
Boyle had thrown two scoreless innings but walked three batters and was down almost three mph on his whole arsenal, so the Rays opted to remove him from the game. As of right now, there is no word on an injury for Boyle, but we’ll need to check back during the week for more updates.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #53
Brandon Woodruff (shoulder/ankle) will make his next rehab start on Wednesday “at an affiliate to be determined.”
The Brewers have also said that Woodruff may make one more rehab start after that. The veteran is ostensibly on the IL with an ankle injury, but he’s also still rehabbing from off-season shoulder surgery so he remains a big risk in fantasy leagues. When he does return in early June, one of Quinn Priester or Chad Patrick will likely be sent down.
