Pirates optioned RHP Thomas Harrington to Triple-A Indianapolis.
The Pirates will likely announce a corresponding transaction before Friday’s game. Harrington is one of the top pitching prospects in the system and could be brought back up as either a multi-inning bullpen arm or possibly to make starts. There’s some long-term upside here, but Harrington is best left on the waiver wire for now.

Mets optioned C Hayden Senger to Triple-A Syracuse.
With Francisco Alvarez expected to be activated from the injured list on Friday, Senger was no longer necessary as a depth piece on the team’s active roster. The 28-year-old backstop hit just .179 (5-for-28) with zero RBI and a 9/1 K/BB ratio in his limited action with the Mets.
Giants' Doval could provide fantasy insurance
Eric Samulski weighs in on Camilo Doval and why the former National League saves leader could provide fantasy insurance for struggling San Francisco Giants closer Ryan Walker.
  • NYM Left Fielder #1
Mets activated INF/OF Jeff McNeil from the 10-day injured list.
As anticipated, McNeil will be back in uniform with the Mets for their weekend series against the Nationals in Washington. The 33-year-old went 11-for-28 (.393) with a pair of homers and three RBI on his minor league rehab assignment. He should see regular action for the Mets against right-handed pitching.
  • NYM 3rd Baseman #7
Mets optioned INF Brett Baty to Triple-A Syracuse.
As expected, with Jeff McNeil returning from the injured list, Baty gets squeezed off of the Mets’ active roster for the time being. The 25-year-old was hitting just .205/.246/.352 with one homer, four RBI, one stolen base and a 19/3 K/BB ratio in 58 plate appearances with the big league club.
  • PIT Center Fielder #28
Tommy Pham is not in the Pirates’ starting lineup for Thursday night’s showdown against the Angels.
The 37-year-old outfielder is slashing a cringe-inducing .184/.267/.224 on the season and if he keeps it up much longer, he’s going to lose a whole lot more than just an occasional start. Alexander Canario will start in his place on Thursday evening and bat sixth against Angels’ southpaw Tyler Anderson.
  • KC Catcher #13
Salvador Perez went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI on Thursday, leading the Royals to a 6-2 victory over the Rockies in the second game of their doubleheader.
Perez chased Rockies’ starter Chase Dollander from the game with a two-run double in the fifth inning that extended the Royals’ lead to 5-0. The 34-year-old backstop also led off the second inning with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Michael Massey. His bat has started to perk up a bit, but even with the three-hit attack he’s still slashing only .220/.271/.360 on the season to go with two homers and 14 RBI.
  • KC Shortstop #7
Bobby Witt Jr. went 1-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base as the Royals bested the Rockies to take both games of Thursday’s doubleheader.
The 24-year-old superstar reached on a fielder’s choice in the third inning, swiped second base and scored on a two-out RBI single from Vinnie Pasquantino. Witt also drove in a run of his own with an RBI single in the fifth inning, then scored on a two-run double by Salvador Perez. He’s off to an outstanding start again this season, slashing .303/.377/.465 with two homers, 10 RBI and eight stolen bases.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #24
Michael Lorenzen was outstanding in Thursday afternoon’s victory over the Rockies, racking up seven strikeouts over six innings of one-run baseball.
The 33-year-old right-hander allowed five hits on the day while issuing four walks. The lone blemish on his day came on a solo blast by Jordan Beck in his final inning of work. Lorenzen generated 12 swings and misses on 96 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 32 percent. He’ll try to build off of this strong outing as he carries a 3.90 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and a 24/11 K/BB ratio (27 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s showdown against the Rays in Tampa Bay.
  • COL Left Fielder #27
Jordan Beck went 2-for-3 and swatted a pair of solo home runs on Thursday, accounting for all of the Rockies’ offense in a loss to the Royals.
Beck tagged Royals’ right-hander Michael Lorenzen for a 399-foot (100.7 mph EV) solo shot in the sixth inning to get the Rockies on the board. He then victimized Daniel Lynch IV for a 425-foot (106.5 mph EV) solo blast in the eighth that made it a 5-2 ballgame. With Zac Veen optioned back to Triple-A Albuquerque, the door is open for Beck to see regular at-bats in the Rockies’ outfield and it looks like he has every intention of seizing the opportunity. He’s now hitting .250/.341/.556 with three homers and seven RBI on the season.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #32
Chase Dollander struggled in a losing effort against the Royals on Thursday, giving up five runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.
The rookie right-hander also walked a pair while striking out three batters on the night. The Royals scratched out single runs against him in the second and third innings, then broke the game open with three more while chasing Dollander in the fifth — the final two on a two-run double by Salvador Perez. The 23-year-old hurler got seven whiffs on 92 pitches on the afternoon, registering a CSW of 18 percent. He’ll carry a troublesome 7.91 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and a 21/7 K/BB ratio (19 1/3 innings) into Tuesday’s matchup against the Braves.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #80
Rangers’ skipper Bruce Bochy told reporters on Thursday that Kumar Rocker will be placed on the injured list with a mild right shoulder impingement.
Rocker turned in his worst start of the season in Wednesday’s loss to the Athletics, giving up five runs in just 1 2/3 innings of work. With Jack Leiter (blister) almost ready to return to the Rangers’ rotation, it’s possible that Rocker would have been bumped from his spot anyways, but this seals the deal. Now word yet on how long the Rangers expect him to be shelved for.
