Jose Alvarado threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings while striking out two en route to picking up a win in a 4-3 victory over the Braves on Wednesday.
Alvarado entered the game in the eighth inning with Michael Harris II up and the go-ahead run on first. He got Harris to ground out to shortstop and then came back out in the ninth inning after Trea Turner had put the Phillies up by one. Alvarado would then allow singles to Marcell Ozuna and Austin Riley, but also get a ground out and strikeouts of Matt Olson and Sean Murphy to close out the win. It never seems easy for Alvarado, but he’s clearly the most valuable reliever in the Phillies’ bullpen right now and needs to be rostered in all formats.

Giancarlo Stanton went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run against the Marlins on Friday.
Stanton started the scoring of what would be a 13-12 game with a three-run home run in the fourth inning. The 35-year-old continues to DH, though the plan is for him to play right field when Aaron Judge returns from the injured next week. All nine of Stanton’s home runs this year have come in his last 21 games. He’s hitting .267 with an .862 OPS and 26 RBI this year.
  • MIA Left Fielder #28
Kyle Stowers went 1-for-5 with a grand slam against the Yankees on Friday.
Stowers’ grand slam was his 24th of the year. The 27-year-old outfielder’s grand slam off Jake Bird in the seventh inning pulled the Marlins to within a run. He has a hit in 13 of his last 15 games and is hitting .396 over that span. Stowers is hitting .297 with a .949 OPS and 67 RBI on the year.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #59
Jake Bird allowed four runs in his first appearance with the Yankees against the Marlins on Friday.
The Yankees led 9-4 in the seventh inning before turning the gave over to Bird, who was making his first appearance for the Yankees since being acquired before Thursday’s trade deadline. Bird allowed a grand slam to Kyle Stowers, which got the Marlins back in the game. David Bednar and Camilo Doval followed Bird with each entering the ballgame with the lead and being charged with a blown save. The Yankees’ new bullpen acquisitions all fell flat in their debuts.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #26
Janson Junk allowed six runs in five innings and got a no-decision in the Marlins’ 13-12 victory over the Yankees on Friday.

Rodon is lined up to face the Rangers on the road next week.
  • LAD Catcher #16

Jonny DeLuca went 2-for-4 against the Dodgers on Friday.
While Chandler’s injury doesn’t appear to be serious, DeLuca got the start and had two hits Friday against the Dodgers. The 27-year-old outfielder would be an option for fantasy managers that need steals if he were to see regular playing time.
  • LAD 1st Baseman #5
Freddie Freeman went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBI against the Rays on Friday.
Freeman’s home run was his 12th of the year. He hit a solo shot off Shane Baz in the fifth inning. The 35-year-old first baseman has now hit 34 home runs in 244 games since the start of the 2024 season. He’s hitting .299 with an .853 OPS and 59 RBI on the season.

Baz gave up eight hits, walked two and struck out eight. Friday’s outing was a bit of a mixed bag for Baz, who struck out eight batters, but allowed multiple runs in the first and fourth innings. The 26-year-old right-hander then allowed a solo home run to Freddie Freeman in the fifth inning. Baz has a 4.79 ERA and 124/46 K/BB ratio in 124 innings this year.
