Chase Dollander earned a victory over the Athletics in his major league debut on Sunday, allowing four runs on seven hits over his five frames.
The 23-year-old right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the afternoon while allowing only one base on balls. Dollander struggled to keep the ball in the yard on Sunday, as he served up a two-run homer to Tyler Soderstrom in the opening inning and a long solo blast to Lawrence Butler in the fifth. He got 10 swings and misses on 79 pitches on the day — four of those on his fastball which averaged 97.8 mph — while registering a CSW of 24 percent. He’ll look to build off of a strong debut when he takes on the Padres in San Diego on Saturday.

Nick Kurtz hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning, but the Athletics fell to the Phillies on Friday.
Top prospect Clarke to be called up by Athletics
Following the Atheltics' announcement that they are calling up prized outfield Denzel Clarke, James Schiano discusses what the toolsy prospect with "blazing speed" will bring to the pro level.
  • PHI Shortstop #7
Trea Turner homered and stole a base while going 3-for-5 in a win over the Athletics on Saturday.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #58
Tanner Banks got the final out to pick up a save Friday against the Athletics.
  • ATH Relief Pitcher #57
Jacob Lopez gave up just a run over seven innings but still was charged with a loss against the Phillies on Friday.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #45
Zack Wheeler didn’t give up a run over 6 2/3 innings to get a win in a 4-3 victory for the Phillies over the Athletics on Friday.
  • MIA 1st Baseman #33
Eric Wagaman hit a three-run homer while going 3-for-6 against the Angels on Friday in a loss for the Marlins.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #74
Kenley Jansen fired a scoreless ninth to get a save Friday against the Marlins.
It wasn’t Jansen at his best, as he issued two walks and he threw just 11-of-23 pitches for strikes. It was good enough, however, for him to pick up his 11th save of the season, and he’s lowered his ERA to a 4.96; a number that is still less than ideal for a fantasy stopper.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #16
Yusei Kikuchi blanked the Marlins for 5 2/3 innings to get a win for the Angels on Friday.
Kikuchi was fortunate to get out of this one without allowing a run — if not more — but credit to the southpaw for getting out of jams. And there were plenty of jams to get out of as he gave up seven hits and issued four walks before exiting. It’s Kikuchi’s first win as a member of the Angels, and the scoreless frames lower his ERA to a very solid 3.17 over the first third of the season. He’ll be back on the bump against the Yankees next week.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #22
Sandy Alcantara was charged for six runs — five earned — while working 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Angels on Friday.
The loss moves Alcantara to 2-7 on the season, and his ERA is a ghastly 8.04 for his trouble. He was decent over the first five innings while allowing three runs, but a three-spot in the sixth took what could have been a quality start and turned it into another ugly outing. Alcantara was once one of the best pitchers in baseball, but it’d be hard to call him anything of the sort right now. The reward doesn’t seem to outweigh the risk for a scheduled start against the Padres on Wednesday.
  • LAA Right Fielder #3
Taylor Ward homered in a 7-4 win for the Angels over the Marlins on Friday.
