Tyler Alexander struck out six across 5 2/3 hitless innings on his way to a 3-2 win over the Reds on Friday.
Called on for the spot start without many expectations, Alexander was fantastic in this one. He attacked the Reds’ hitters with repeated cutters and fastballs up in the zone and had pinpoint command with each pitch. Together they forced four pop-ups and a handful of lazy fly balls. The kicker is — his stuff looked good. His fastball had legitimate life, his cutter was lethal, and his changeup had plus run. He also threw 83 pitches, which was far more than expected after throwing 47 in relief last weekend. The Brewers are starved for pitching depth and Alexander would become mildly interesting in deep leagues should he stick in the rotation. Him lasting for 83 pitches is also a good sign that he’ll be trusted to start again.

Marlins selected the contract of RHP Freddy Tarnok from Triple-A Jacksonville.
Tarnok latched on with Miami last December on a minor league contract and officially joins the club ahead of Sunday’s contest against the Athletics. The 26-year-old provides the Marlins with some additional long relief depth. He hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2023 campaign.
Casparius may get good ratios as Dodgers starter
Eric Samulski analyzes the Dodgers moving Ben Casparius into the starting rotations and what he will bring to fantasy managers in his new role.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #59
Marlins optioned LHP Anthony Veneziano to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Veneziano heads back to the minors after posting a respectable 4.71 ERA across 21 innings (24 appearances) this season for Miami.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #76
Marlins designated RHP Luarbert Arias for assignment.
Arias has been removed from Miami’s 40-man roster to make space for Freddy Tarnok. The 24-year-old righty made six relief appearances earlier this season for the Marlins.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #45
Rockies recalled LHP Carson Palmquist from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Palmquist will take the ball for Monday’s series opener against the Nationals. The 24-year-old rookie southpaw has posted a lackluster 7.77 ERA across 22 innings (five starts) this season in the big leagues. He’s not a recommended option for fantasy purposes.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #21
Rockies placed LHP Kyle Freeland on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 12, with lower back stiffness.
Freeland has been scratched from Monday’s scheduled start against the Nationals and will likely wind up missing a couple weeks. It’ll be Carson Palmquist taking his spot in Colorado’s rotation.
  • MIN Center Fielder #25
Byron Buxton (elbow) has been scratched from Sunday’s lineup against the Astros.
Buxton was in Sunday’s original lineup after suffering a left elbow contusion when he was hit by a pitch during Saturday’s game. It sounds like a precautionary decision to give him some extra rest. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
  • TEX Left Fielder #32
Evan Carter (wrist) is in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the White Sox.
Carter talked his way into Sunday’s lineup after showing up to the ballpark feeling ready to go. The 22-year-old has been dealing with some left wrist discomfort since Friday’s game. It’ll be Alejandro Osuna heading to the bench.
  • CWS Center Fielder #88
Luis Robert Jr. was scratched from Sunday’s lineup with right thumb soreness.
Robert has not been traded. The 27-year-old outfielder takes a seat for Sunday’s series finale, likely for precautionary reasons, with veteran Michael A. Taylor taking over in center field. He figures to be ready for Tuesday’s series opener against the Cardinals. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
  • CHC Left Fielder #30
Kyle Tucker is not in the lineup for Sunday’s showdown against the Pirates.
It appears to be a routine off day for Tucker with Seiya Suzuki heading out to patrol right field on Sunday afternoon against the Pirates. The 28-year-old fantasy superstar has been scuffling of late by his lofty standards, hitting .240 (12-for-50) with only one homer and two steals over his last 15 contests.
  • TB 1st Baseman #2
Yandy Díaz is on the bench to open Sunday’s showdown against the Mets.
Díaz takes a seat amid a sizzling-hot stretch where he’s batting .355 (22-for-62) with three homers and 12 RBI over his last 15 games. He’s hitting .433 (13-for-30) over his past seven games alone. It’s Junior Caminero taking a turn at DH with Jonathan Aranda at the cold corner on Sunday afternoon facing Mets righty Griffin Canning.
