Tyler Freeman is starting at second base for the Rockies on Thursday against the Phillies.
Kyle Farmer has started four of the last five games at second base and has gone 3-for-13 to start the season. Freeman has the versatility to play all over the field, but second base is his best chance to break into the lineup regularly.
  • ATH Shortstop #5

Jacob Wilson is not in the starting lineup Saturday against the Astros.
Wilson will miss the second game of the four-game series, at least to start. The impressive rookie gets a break with Max Schuemann getting the start at shortstop while hitting eighth.
Jones' power production can't be ignored
James Schiano evaluates the potential of New York Yankees top prospect Spencer Jones, explaining why the 24-year-old outfielder's power production can't be ignored as he's compiled 29 home runs in the minors this season.
  • PHI 1st Baseman #3
Bryce Harper clobbered his 15th home run of the season on Saturday, powering the Phillies to a lopsided 9-4 win over the Yankees.
Harper pounced all over a center-cut fastball from Yankees starter Marcus Stroman, sending a majestic 425-foot blast out to right field for his 15th round-tripper of the season. The 32-year-old fantasy stalwart has caught fire of late, hitting .305 (18-for-59) with six homers and nine RBI over his last 15 games.
  • NYY Right Fielder #27
Giancarlo Stanton went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer in Saturday’s loss to the Phillies.
Stanton’s seventh-inning dinger against Phillies reliever Daniel Robert slashed New York’s deficit to six runs at the time. He’s gone deep seven times in 16 games since the start of July. He capped off the multi-hit effort with a ninth-inning single. The big question heading into next week is the health of Aaron Judge, who underwent imaging on Saturday for a right elbow issue. It’s unclear whether Stanton would be able to play right field if Judge is limited to DH duty for an extended period.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #55
Ranger Suárez matched a season-high with eight strikeouts and allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings on Saturday in a win over the Yankees.
Suárez drew the starting assignment for Saturday afternoon’s matinee at Yankee Stadium and carried a shutout into the fourth inning before Jasson Domínguez connected for a run-scoring single with two outs. He was lifted from the contest after giving up a pair of sixth-inning singles. It was the fourth time this season that he’s posted eight strikeouts with three of those outings coming in a seven-start span dating back to June 18. It was a much-needed bounce back for the 29-year-old lefty after getting rocked for six runs his last time out against the Angels. He’ll face off against the Tigers on Friday in his next outing.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #0
Marcus Stroman was charged with four runs over 3 2/3 innings on Saturday in a loss to the Phillies.
On the heels of his strongest start of the season, Stroman struggled to throw strikes and failed to complete four frames on Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium. He gave up a run in the opening frame before serving up a third-inning moonshot to Bryce Harper. Things unraveled further in the ensuing inning when he issued four walks, enabling the Phillies tacked on a pair of additional runs. The 34-year-old righty holds a bloated 6.09 ERA and 23/15 K/BB ratio across 34 innings (eight starts) this season. He’ll square off against the Rays on Thursday in his next outing.
  • HOU Shortstop #3
Jeremy Peña (rib) took part in a live bullpen session Saturday in Florida.
Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters that Peña took seven at-bats, and that they went well. He’ll face live pitching again Sunday as he continues to work his way back from the rib injury that has sidelined him since the end of June. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Peña began a rehab assignment soon if things continues to progress at this pace.
  • LAD Right Fielder #50
Mookie Betts is not in the starting lineup for Saturday’s game against the Red Sox.
Betts missed Friday’s game due to a personal matter, and it appears he’ll be held out one more contest at least. Miguel Rojas will start at shortstop and hit ninth in Betts’ absence.
  • MIL Right Fielder #10
Brewers activated OF Sal Frelick from the 10-day injured list.
Frelick returns to Milwaukee’s outfield mix following a nearly two-weeks absence recovering from a mild hamstring strain. The 25-year-old former top prospect has put together a strong campaign so far, hitting .294/.354/.404 with seven homers and 17 steals in 385 plate appearances over 93 games.
  • MIL 1st Baseman #7
Brewers optioned INF Tyler Black to Triple-A Nashville.
Black returns to the minors with Sal Frelick coming off the injured list prior to Saturday’s game against the Marlins. The 25-year-old infielder got into three games for the Brewers after being called up last weekend, going 2-for-6 with an RBI during that span.
  • CIN Relief Pitcher #58
Reds activated RHP Scott Barlow from the paternity list.
Barlow wound up only missing one game while away on paternity leave. The 32-year-old righty has pitched to a respectable 3.63 ERA and 49/27 K/BB ratio across 44 2/3 innings (49 appearances) this season in his Reds debut.
