Logan Webb delivered a dominant performance in Tuesday’s victory over the Astros, allowing just one run on five hits over seven strong innings.
The right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the night and didn’t allow a single base on balls. The only blemish on his night came on a Crawford box solo shot that he surrendered to Jose Altuve in the fourth inning. Webb got 12 swings and misses on 100 pitches on the night — four on his sweeper — while posting a CSW of 30 percent. He’ll carry a 3.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and an 11/3 K/BB ratio (12 innings) into Monday’s matchup against the Reds.

    Mets released OF Rafael Ortega.
Ortega, who has spent parts of eight seasons in the majors, has been hurt for much of this year, though he did recently rejoin Triple-A Syracuse and go 3-for-16 with six RBI in five games. The 34-year-old is a lifetime .245/.322/.349 hitter in 1,301 plate appearances as a major leaguer.
MIL 'eating the race' for NL Rookie of the Year
Trysta Krick and Vaughn Dalzell discuss the betting odds for NL Rookie of the Year; shining light on why the gap is closing and Milwaukee Brewers' Isaac Collins is the person to bet.
  • TB Center Fielder #25
Rays optioned OF Tristan Peters to Triple-A Durham.
The move makes room for Bob Seymour on the roster. Peters was sent down on Monday, only to be recalled the next day with Taylor Walls going on the injured list. He’s gone 0-for-12 with seven strikeouts in four major league games.
  • SD Catcher #12
Luis Campusano went 3-for-5 with two homers for Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.
It was his second straight two-homer game. We were hoping Campusano would get thrown into one of the Padres’ deadline deals, but it didn’t happen. Since his defense just hasn’t come along and he’s already arbitration eligible, he’s not all that attractive as trade bait at the moment. However, he has hit .321/.431/.617 with 21 homers and a 63/53 K/BB in 348 plate appearances in Triple-A this season.
  • ARI Shortstop #10
Jordan Lawlar went 2-for-5 with a double in his return to Triple-A Reno’s lineup on Thursday.
Lawlar had been out since the end of June with a strained hamstring. He played third base last night and figures to mostly stay there as the D-backs groom him as Eugenio Suárez’s replacement. The current plan is probably for something like a Sept. 1 promotion, but maybe he could speed that up by getting off to a hot start.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #24
Robert Stephenson, out with a stretched nerve in his biceps, allowed two runs in an inning in his first rehab appearance for Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.
Stephenson averaged just 93.8 mph with his fastball last night, down from 98.5 mph in his one major league appearance this season and 96.9 mph pre-Tommy John surgery in 2023. The Angels will probably want to give him a couple of more appearances to build up before activating him.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #45
Michael Kopech gave up three runs in two-thirds of an inning in his rehab appearance for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday.
Kopech averaged 97.4 mph with his fastball, but he didn’t much seem to know where it was going. Fortunately, he has some time to get it together in his return from knee surgery; he’s not eligible to come off the 60-day IL until Aug. 27.
  • KC 1st Baseman #14
Jac Caglianone went 2-for-4 with a double in his second game for Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.
He previously went 4-for-5 on Tuesday. Caglianone, coming back from a hamstring strain, has started in right field both games in his rehab assignment. One imagines the Royals will move Mike Yastrzemski to left and bench or send down John Rave when Caglianone is activated.
  • NYM Shortstop #90
The recently promoted Jett Williams finished 3-for-3 with a double and a walk for Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday.
All three hits ranged from 101-108 mph off the bat. Williams started in center field last night after playing shortstop in his first two games for Syracuse. He was also playing some second base in Double-A. Obviously, he’s going to have a much easier time breaking in with the Mets at one of his alternative positions than he will at short. He’s probably not going to be a factor this year unless maybe Cedric Mullins gets hurt.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #91
Brandon Sproat surrendered six runs — five earned — in 3 1/3 innings for Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.
Nolan McLean apparently just edged out Sproat to become the Mets’ new fifth starter this weekend, and Sproat responded with his worst outing in a couple of months. He entered last night with a 1.15 ERA in his previous seven starts. In fact, he’d given up six runs — five earned — over 39 innings in those games.
  • PHI 3rd Baseman #28
Alec Bohm finished 2-for-5 with a triple- for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday.
Bohm, out since July 19 with a fractured rib, homered Wednesday and hit the ball hard in three of his five at-bats last night. He should be ready to return from the injured list this weekend.
