Tarik Skubal suffered his first defeat of the season on Opening Day, giving up four runs on six hits over his five innings of work against the Dodgers.
The reigning American League Cy Young award winner struck out just two batters in the contest while issuing one base on balls. All of the damage done against him came via the long ball, with Tommy Edman belting a solo homer in the second inning and Teoscar Hernandez adding a two-out, three-run blast in the fifth. Skubal got eight swings and misses on 80 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 28 percent. Expect him to take out his frustration from this outing on the Mariners his next time out in Seattle on Wednesday.
