Anderson won a spot on the Opening Day roster after hitting .250/.297/.317 with one home run and three steals. With Zach Neto (shoulder) starting the year on the IL, Kevin Newman will be the starting shortstop with Anderson filling in at second base. The Angels’ full lineup is: Taylor Ward LF, Nolan Schanuel 1B, Mike Trout RF, Jorge Soler DH, Tim Anderson 2B, Luis Rengifo 3B, Logan O’Hoppe C, Jo Adell CF, Kevin Newman SS.

Judge also stole a base while supposedly getting a half-day off as the Yankees’ designated hitter. The three-run homer in the first was his 500th career extra-base hit. 320 of those have been homers. He has five homers and 15 RBI in six games to start 2025.

Handed nine runs of support, Carrasco was able to record his first victory in 10 starts dating back to last June 21. He ended up allowing five hits, walking two and striking out five. We don’t really see much to like here, but those in deep leagues could consider him next week against a diminished Tigers lineup.

Weaver, who hadn’t pitched in a week, got the save chance tonight because Devin Williams is on the paternity list. Encouraging was that he averaged 94.4 mph with his fastball. That’s still down 1.3 mph from last season, but it’s a clear improvement over where he was this spring and in his season debut (93.4 mph).

Kelly gave up four in the first and two in the third, but the Diamondbacks tried to get more out of him, seeing as they have no days off until next Thursday. It might have cost them the game, as Kelly allowed three runs in the fourth in a contest they went on to lose 9-7. Kelly, who beat the Cubs his first time out, has a 9.00 ERA after this one. He’ll be a weak play in mixed leagues against the Orioles next week.

Grisham was making just his second start of the year with Paul Goldschmidt getting the night off. If Grisham performs well offensively, the Yankees could be tempted to make him their primary center fielder, with Jasson Domínguez becoming a DH. Still, they’d prefer to see Domínguez improve defensively, and Ben Rice has been great as the primary DH thus far.

Perdomo got to hit second with Ketel Marte getting the night off and capitalized with his first homer of 2025 and 15th in his five-season career. He’s actually tied with teammate Eugenio Suárez, as well as Seiya Suzuki and Kyle Tucker, for the NL lead with 11 RBI, even though he’s a mere 8-for-25 with two extra-base hits and he usually hits ninth.

It’s the Reds’ third straight 1-0 defeat, with the first two coming at the hands of the Rangers. Cortes rebounded from serving up five homers his first time out, though he did yield two shots in Milwaukee tonight that would have been homers in Cincinnati. He wound up striking out six and walking two. He’s due to make his lone start next week in Colorado, so he won’t be a very good play then.

Trevor Megill and Jared Koenig had both worked each of the previous two days, so Payamps got the call tonight. He delivered, too, even though he’d come into this one having given up five runs in two innings this season. Megill should be back in the closer’s role Friday.

Until Austin Hays got hurt, Steer was going to open the season on the IL because of his sore shoulder. It’s now apparent that it should have happened anyway. He has just one hard-hit hit ball through five games, and he’s doing a lot of swinging and missing. Perhaps he might yet wind up getting 10 days off here soon.

The 27-year-old left-hander struck out four on the night and didn’t walk a batter. The only run that scored against him came in the fourth inning as Jackson Chourio doubled, advanced to third on an error and scored on a Sal Frelick RBI single. Unfortunately for Lodolo, the Reds’ offense couldn’t provide him with a single run of support in this one. He generated eight swings and misses on 82 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 24 percent. He’ll look to get back in the win column as he carries a stellar 1.42 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and a 5/0 K/BB ratio (12 2/3 innings) into Tuesday’s matchup against the Giants in San Francisco.
