Pirates optioned INF Billy Cook and INF Nick Yorke to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Neither Cook or Yorke did enough to earn a spot on the Pittsburgh bench, but both could be up-and-down options for the Pirates depending on how others perform and/or injuries. Yorke is still worth keeping an eye on in keeper leagues.

Eugenio Suárez went 1-for-3 with a solo homer in a loss to the Cubs on Thursday.
Suárez got off to a terrible start in 2024 but still put up solid numbers. He’s off to a pretty decent one now, with his homer traveling 430 feet to center off Justin Steele. You can’t count on Suárez to help you in the average category, but that power isn’t going anywhere. Not in 2025, anyway.

Ryan Pressly allowed a run over an inning against the Diamondbacks on Thursday.
Pressly was warming up for a save situation in the ninth, and he still came into pitch even after the Cubs extended their lead to 10-5. Unfortunately, fantasy managers get no save and take a hit to the ERA. It happens. Pressly is locked in as the stopper to begin the 2025 campaign for Chicago.

Ian Happ homered, doubled and drove in three runs in a 10-6 win for the Cubs on Thursday.
Happ doubled home a pair of runs in the first, and then swatted a solo shot off an ineffective Zac Gallen to extend the Cubs’ lead to 4-2. The 30-year-old is coming off a 2024 campaign where he socked 25 homers and stolen 13 bases in a solid — if unspectacular — fantasy campaign. Happ should be in line for similiar numbers in 2025. You can do a lot worse.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #23
Zac Gallen was charged for four runs in four innings in a loss Thursday to the Cubs.
Gallen was given the Opening Day nod over Corbin Burnes, and it didn’t go particularly well. He issued four walks while throwing just 43-of-83 pitches for strikes, and he also gave up a solo shot to Ian Happ. It’s just one start, but fantasy managers have the right to be disappointed. Just don’t do anything stupid. Gallen will try and bounce back against the Yankees next week.

Justin Steele yielded three runs over five innings against the Diamondbacks on Thursday to pick up a win.
Steele allowed six hits — one of them a homer — and walked one against two strikeouts. He get the win, but that’s more thanks to the Cubs’ offense than how well the southpaw pitched. Steele should be fine, but this spring — and this outing — have left a bit to be desired. He’ll get the A’s in Sacramento next.
  • ATH First Baseman #21
Tyler Soderstrom homered twice in a loss to the Mariners on Thursday.
Soderstrom took advantage of a rare mistake from an otherwise-dominant Logan Gilbert to give the A’s a 1-0 lead. He went deep again off Trent Thornton to make it 2-1, but that was it for the Sacramento-ish offense. Soderstrom has the talent to be a strong fantasy option in the coming years, and hopefully it comes with catcher eligibility in the coming weeks.
  • SEA Left Fielder #56
Randy Arozarena hit a game-tying solo homer in the eighth in the Mariners’ win over the Athletics on Thursday.
Arozarena absolutely clobbered a mistake from Jose LeClerc to tie the game at 2-2 with an exit velocity over 112 mph. The 30-year-old has looked fantastic this spring, and appears locked in to begin the year. When Arozarena is hot, few players are better.
  • SEA Third Baseman #7
Jorge Polanco picked up three hits and hit a two-run homer to help Seattle to a 4-2 win over the Athletics on Thursday.
Polanco was a disaster in his first season with the Mariners, but is off to a nice start to the 2025 campaign. He unloaded to center with a runner on to give the Mariners a 4-2 lead and ultimately the win. Polanco offers risk based on his struggles last year, but fantasy managers can’t forget how good he looked as a member of the Twins not long ago.
  • SEA Relief Pitcher #75
Andres Muñoz hurled a scoreless ninth with a strikeout to get a save Thursday vs. the Athletics.
Muñoz did issue a walk, but he was able to get a strikeout and a game-ending double play on a nifty play from J.P. Crawford. It’s (obviously) the first save of the season from the 26-year-old, and he’ll get the overwhelming majority of chances for Seattle again in 2025.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #36
Logan Gilbert allowed just one run on two hits while striking out eight, but didn’t factor into the decision Thursday against the Athletics.
Gilbert didn’t pick up a win, but he was about to be charged with a very hard-luck loss until the Mariners scored a run in the seventh to prevent that. The only run he allowed came on a slider that missed up to Tyler Soderstrom, with Soderstrom taking Gilbert deep in the fifth. Outside of that, it was an outstanding effort; one that reminded of how good the 27-year-old was in 2024. Gilbert will hope for more run support in a scheduled start against the Tigers next time out.
