Freddy Peralta was absolutely annihilated in his final start of the spring against the Diamondbacks on Friday, allowing 10 runs on eight hits and four walks in just 3 1/3 innings.
Yikes. On the plus side, at least Peralta struck out five batters in the abysmal performance. He gave up four runs in the opening inning on a pair of two-run homers from Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Gabriel Moreno. He then settled in and put up zeroes for two innings before the D’Backs hung another four on him in the fourth. They tacked on another pair in the fifth before he mercifully called it a night. This start obviously skews his entire spring numbers as he finishes with an 8.56 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and a 16/5 K/BB ratio over his 13 2/3 innings. He remains a strong source of strikeouts for fantasy purposes as a fringe top 30 starting pitcher.

Yankees signed 1B Jake Gatewood to a minor league contract.
Gatewood has shown some pop since being a first-round pick by the Brewers all the way back in 2014, but the rest of the tools never developed. He’ll likely head to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
  • SD Catcher #29
Padres sent C Brett Sullivan outright to Triple-A El Paso.
Sullivan went unclaimed after being designated for assignment. He’ll likely back up Luis Campusano in the minors.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #64
Reds manager Terry Francona told reporters Wednesday that he was unsure on who the closer will be while Alexis Diaz (hamstring) is on the injured list.
Francona told reporters he’ll play it by ear. He mentioned that Tony Santillan seemed like the obvious replacement, but that the right-hander may be “too valuable” to save for the ninth inning. Taylor Rogers, Emilio Pagan and a host of other bullpen arms are all possible options, but Santillan would obviously be the ideal replacement with his swing-and-miss stuff from a fantasy perspective.
  • DET Outfielder #44
Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports that Justyn-Henry Malloy will not make the Opening Day roster.
Henry-Malloy will be optioned down, and Ryan Kreidler instead will begin the season with the Tigers. Malloy showed some decent flashes in his first season with Detroit in 2024, but the Tigers will send him down to get more regular playing time in Toledo. He should be up with the big-league club before the season ends.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #0
Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports that Andrew Chafin will not be a part of the Tigers’ Opening Day roster.
Instead, Chafin will report to Triple-A Toledo. The veteran left-hander all but assuredly has an opt-out clause, so his stay in Toledo will likely be short whether he’s called up by the Tigers or not.
  • CWS Third Baseman #32
White Sox reassigned INFS Bobby Dalbec, Tristan Gray and Chase Meidroth and RHPs James Karinchak and Steven Wilson to minor league camp.
A few “high profile” names here. Dalbec, Wilson and Karinchak have all had various levels of success in the majors, but none were good enough to make the White Sox out of camp. No comment. Several of these players likely have opt-outs, so none are guaranteed to report to Triple-A Charlotte when the season begins.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #60
White Sox optioned RHP Justin Anderson to Triple-A Charlotte.
Anderson won’t break camp with the White Sox. The 32-year-old will head to the International League, and he’ll likely be one of the first arms up when Chicago needs help. Chicago is going to need a lot of help.
  • CWS Right Fielder #22
White Sox designated OF Oscar Colas for assignment.
Colas is removed from the 40-man roster to make room for Greg Jones after Jones was claimed off waivers. Colas was once considered the top prospect in the Chicago system, and at the age of 26, it wouldn’t be a surprise if someone showed interest in him as a reclamation project.
  • CWS Shortstop #2
White Sox claimed INF/OF Greg Jones off waivers from the Rockies and optioned him to Triple-A Charlotte.
Jones was designated for assignment by Colorado, and the White Sox will give the speedy 27-year-old a look in their organization. A good showing in Charlotte could see Jones up with the White Sox relatively quickly, but there’s very little potential fantasy value even with his well above-average wheels.
  • CIN Left Fielder #17
Reds designated OF Stuart Fairchild for assignment.
The move opens up a spot on the active roster for Jacob Hurtubise. Fairchild will now hit waivers, and a team looking for a potential bat off the bench could show interest. It’s just as likely — if not more so — that he goes unclaimed and reports to Triple-A Louisville.
