Tomoyuki Sugano was hit hard in Thursday’s loss to the Yankees, giving up five runs on six hits across his 4 2/3 frames.
The 35-year-old right-hander walked two and struck out four batters on the evening. Jazz Chisholm Jr. was his nemesis in this one, as the Yankees’ infielder smacked a two-run double in the opening inning and added a three-run blast in the third to account for all of the damage. Even with this rough outing though, Sugano has been awfully impressive in his first spring stateside, registering a 3.00 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP with 15 strikeouts across 15 innings.
