Jose Miranda went 3-for-4 and knocked in four of the Twins’ 15 runs Thursday against the Pirates.
Edouard Julien also had a nice game, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI. Brooks Lee wound up 1-for-4. It remains to be seen if the Twins are going to find time for all three of their former top prospects on the roster while being committed to playing Ty France at first and giving Harrison Bader a lot of time in left. Miranda remains a wild card, since, unlike Julien and Lee, he’s not an option at second. Miranda has played plenty of third this spring, but the Twins haven’t given Royce Lewis any time at second, which suggests that arrangement isn’t on the table. Miranda, who is batting .321/.382/.464 this spring, will probably be a backup initially, but that could change in an instant if Lewis, Byron Buxton or someone else gets hurt.

Athletics designated OF Esteury Ruiz for assignment.
Ruiz, who stole 67 bases for the A’s in 2023, had since fallen out of favor with the organization. Reg flags were raised at the outset of 2024 when Ruiz began the year in the minor leagues. Now the 26-year-old speedster is likely on his way out of the organization altogether as he’s been designated for assignment. It’s possible he catches on with another team soon.

Athletics claimed LHP Angel Perdomo off waivers from the Angels.
Perdomo was designated for assignment by the Angels earlier this week. The 30-year-old left-hander didn’t clear waivers as he was claimed by the Athletics. Esteury Ruiz was designated for assignment in a corresponding move to make room on the 40-man roster. Perdomo figures to have a role in the Athletics’ bullpen.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #76
Marlins recalled RHP Luarbert Arias from Triple-A Jacksonville.
The Marlins needed a fresh arm in the bullpen with Jesus Tinoco hitting the injured list. Arias fits the bill after he posted a solid 3.04 ERA at Triple-A last year, earning himself a spot on the Marlins’ 40-man roster over the offseason.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #38
Marlins placed RHP Jesus Tinoco on the 15-day injured list with retroactive to March 28 with a left low back strain.
Tinoco is going to be on the shelf for at least 15 days with a back injury. While it’s not an arm injury, this leaves Anthony Bender and Calvin Faucher as the possible options for save opportunities with the Marlins. RHP Luarbert Arias was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville to take Tinoco’s spot on the active roster.
  • CLE Third Baseman #11
José Ramírez, who sprained his right wrist Saturday, is available to pinch-hit Sunday and could start Monday’s game, manager Stephen Vogt said.
“But we also want to be super cautious with this and make sure it doesn’t turn into something that’s going to linger,” Vogt added. The Guardians have Gabriel Arias at third and Daniel Schneeman at second today.
  • WSH Relief Pitcher #21
Jorge López is available Sunday after missing the last two games with an illness.
López warmed up Thursday, but he sat back down because he didn’t feel well. With the Nationals having lost two close games, López certainly would have pitched at least once by now had he been feeling up to it.
  • PIT Outfielder #15
Oneil Cruz is out of the Pirates lineup Sunday against the Marlins.
There’s no indication of an injury here. Cruz has made multiple mistakes in center field already, but sitting him in the fourth game of the season, against a right-hander and when he could easily DH, is baffling. Cruz reached base eight times in the Pirates’ first three games. Jack Suwinski is in center field today.
  • LAA Center Fielder #7
Jo Adell (hip) told reporters he’s feeling much better and could play on Monday.
Adell left Saturday’s game with left hip tightness, but it seems like a trip to the injured list won’t be necessary since he told reporters he’s feeling much better and could play as soon as Monday. While it remains to be seen if he’ll actually be in the lineup Monday, Adell seems to have at least avoided a worst-case scenario.
  • TEX Second Baseman #24
Rangers recalled INF Jonathan Ornelas from Triple-A Round Rock.
Ornelas was recalled because Josh Jung is injured and Josh Smith hurt himself during Saturday’s game. Texas needed an extra infielder and Ornelas will do the job with Jung going on the injured list. Ornelas is in the lineup Sunday playing shortstop and batting eighth with Corey Seager getting a routine day off.
  • MIN Second Baseman #47
Edouard Julien is on the bench again Sunday and has yet to get a start for the Twins in three games this season.
That’s the case even though all three games have been against right-handers. Julien had a solid spring, hitting .281/.349/.456, but the Twins seem to be prioritizing defense in using Willi Castro at second base and Harrison Bader in left field. Julien at second and Castro in left seems like a better alignment against righties.
