Lucas Giolito was diagnosed with a low-grade strain in his left hamstring and will start the season on the IL.
Giolito has not been shut down from throwing, which is a great sign for his long-term health as he awaits further word from the training staff on his next step. However, considering he was making his first start on Tuesday when he got hurt, the Red Sox are not inclined to rush him back, which means Giolito will likely spend the first few weeks of the season on the IL until he can ramp up to at least five innings of work. With Brayan Bello and Kuter Crawford also set to start the season on the IL, it looks like two of Richard Fitts, Quinn Priester and Cooper Criswell will start the season in the Red Sox rotation.
