The Orioles’ best players this spring have been backup infielders ticketed for Triple-A: Soto is hitting .467, Vimael Machin is at .533 and Emmanuel Rivera hit his second homer today. There would be room for one on the roster if Gunnar Henderson joins Jorge Mateo on the IL initially, though since it’d presumably be a short stay, the Orioles might prefer to just go with Coby Mayo instead of adding someone to the 40-man.

It’s a tough break for Foscue, who is off to a strong start this spring. The 26-year-old former first-round pick smacked a 106-mph single in his lone at-bat of the exhibition contest prior to exiting. He’ll presumably head for further evaluation and testing to determine the severity of the injury. There should be an update on his status in the coming days.

Both of Rice’s hits were singles. The second was off a lefty in Gregory Soto, which seems good since his playing time against southpaws is in question right now. However, it was just a slow roller to second that he was able to beat out.

Hess, the Yankees’ first-round pick in 2024, got 11 whiffs on 22 swings against Pirates minor leaguers. He’s due to return to Double-A to begin this year after finishing last season with a 2.70 ERA in seven late starts at the level.

That’s as many walks as he had in 31 1/3 innings as a major leaguer last year. Chandler had an easy eight-pitch first inning, but he walked the first two in the second, rebounded to get two outs and then walked two more, leading to his exit with one run in and the bases loaded. All three inherited runners came around to score afterwards. Chandler topped out at 100.6 mph today, so his stuff is already there. He’s dealt with control issues in the minors, though, and it was a major surprise just how successful he was in that department during his 2025 major league audition. He’s currently a very good bet to secure a spot in Pittsburgh’s rotation, but another outing with this kind of wildness might change things.

Roberts added that Los Angeles’ season opener in late March wasn’t necessarily their target date for Snell to join the club’s rotation. The 33-year-old veteran southpaw was limited to just 11 regular-season starts last year due to persistent shoulder issues, which is why the Dodgers are slow-playing his ramp-up process this spring. The general expectation is that Snell will be ready to make his season debut at some point in the early stages of the year, but he’s behind the rest of the club’s starters in camp right now. There should be some additional clarity regarding his timeline once he progresses to facing hitters again. He’s a risky early-round selection in fantasy drafts this spring given his checkered injury history but he’s been excellent when he’s healthy enough to take the mound.

Kelly underwent precautionary imaging after being scratched from a scheduled live batting practice session over the weekend due to mid-back tightness. There should be a definitive update regarding the 37-year-old veteran’s status at some point in the coming days. At this point, he remains on track to take the ball on Opening Day.

A rare 413-foot blast for the former top prospect. Pache is in Mets camp as a non-roster player after failing to appear in the majors in a 2025 season spent in the Diamondbacks organization. He’s probably not a threat to make the team, but he could be called up as a backup center fielder if Luis Robert Jr. lands on the IL at some point.

Holmes allowed just one hit, but it was a two-run homer from Kazuma Okamoto. The homer came on the new curveball he’s been working on this spring. Everything else was working nicely today. His velocity faded in the third, but before that, he was a tad above last year’s norms.

Berríos’s velocity was down about one mph from 2025, but he said after the game that he feels 100 percent after last year’s arm woes and he’s actually still hoping to be cleared to pitch for Puerto Rico in the WBC. Berríos’s rotation status with the Jays was in doubt for much of the winter, but he should have a spot initially with Shane Bieber set to go on the IL.

Okamoto’s homer off the batting eye in center left his bat at 103.4 mph and was projected at 431 feet. He struck out in his other at-bat, leaving him 1-for-4 in two appearances this spring. He hit fifth today after batting sixth in his first game Saturday.
