Manny Machado went 0-for-2 with a strikeout on Tuesday against the Giants in his return to the lineup.
Machado returned to San Diego’s lineup following a brief absence due to back tightness. There’s plenty of historical evidence suggesting that back issues shouldn’t be ignored, but it doesn’t seem like a serious concern at this juncture of spring training.
  • CLE Second Baseman #74

Guardians 2B prospect Juan Brito went 2-for-4 with a stolen base for Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday.
Brito lost the second base job to Gabriel Arias in the spring, but has gotten off to a good start in Triple-A, going 7-for-20 with one steal, three RBI, three strikeouts, and one walk. Gabriel Arias has also gotten off to a strong start for the Guardians, going 6-for-19 with one home run and two RBI in six games, so there is no change in the works.
  • BAL Right Fielder #15
Dylan Carlson is starting in left field and batting ninth for the Orioles on Thursday.
Carlson was called up on Monday when Colston Cowser (fractured thumb) went on the IL and did get two pinch-hit appearances, but today will be his first start of the season. He had gone 3-for-7 with a home run and two walks in two games at Triple-A and will be battling Heston Kjerstad for at-bats while Cowser is out. For Thursday, both will be in the lineup with Tyler O’Neill shifting to DH and Ryan Mountcastle taking a day off.
  • BAL Shortstop #2
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Gunnar Henderson (oblique) is probable for tomorrow against the Royals.
There had been some rumors earlier in the day that Henderson would be in the lineup today, but the Orioles had previously said they didn’t want him to play in a day game after a night game at Triple-A. Instead, it will be Jackson Holliday at shortstop and Ramon Urias at third base for the Orioles on Thursday, with Henderson returning on Friday.
  • DET Third Baseman #17
Tigers 3B prospect Jace Jung went 2-for-4 with a home run and a triple for Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.
Jung’s triple hit the top of the wall at 374 feet before he later crushed a 415-foot no-doubter. Jung was not able to win the 3B spot out of spring training, but he has a 1.478 OPS through 15 Triple-A at-bats and could push for another shot with the Tigers if he keeps swinging the bat well over the next couple of weeks.
  • BOS Catcher #75
Carlos Narvaez is starting at catcher and batting eighth for the Red Sox on Thursday against the Orioles.
It’s a regular day off for Connor Wong, so Narvaez will slide into his spot in the lineup. However, Wong is hitting just 1-for-19 with six strikeouts to start the season, and Narvaez is the superior defensive catcher. If Narvaez can bring enough value with the bat, he could easily push for more playing time. Both catchers remain off fantasy radars for now.
  • COL Third Baseman #23
Kris Bryant is not in the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Phillies.
Jacob Stallings will catch, so the Rockies are moving Hunter Goodman to DH and giving Bryant the day off. The veteran has started the year just 1-for-14 with six strikeouts, though he’s unlikely to lose his starting job while he’s healthy. However, fantasy managers should expect regular days off.
  • COL Center Fielder #2
Tyler Freeman is starting at second base for the Rockies on Thursday against the Phillies.
Kyle Farmer has started four of the last five games at second base and has gone 3-for-13 to start the season. Freeman has the versatility to play all over the field, but second base is his best chance to break into the lineup regularly.
  • FA Center Fielder #77
FanSided’s Robert Murray reports that the White Sox signed OF Joshua Palacios to a minor league contract.
Palacios was recently designated for assignment by the Pirates. He went unclaimed on waivers and opted to test free agency. The White Sox will add him to their glut of veteran outfielders who have operated on the fringes of MLB rosters, such as Mike Tauchman, Austin Slater, Michael A. Taylor, Corey Julks and Cal Mitchell.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #65
Noah Cameron allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits in five innings while striking out six in a win for Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.
The performance came against a solid Louisville team, the Triple-A affiliate of the Reds. Cameron had a strong spring training and made a good case for the fifth starter job in Kansas City before being sent to the minors. He remains the likely choice to be next-man-up should an injury happen in the Royals’ rotation.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #61
Chase Petty allowed six runs on six hits in 3 1/3 innings in his first start for Triple-A Louisville.
Petty turned heads in his few spring outings in the Cactus League, but the former first-round pick is still just 21 years old, so a bit of a learning curve is expected. He did strike out four in the outing, but he also walked two. Petty averaged 94.5 mph on his four-seam fastball on Tuesday, but he gets below-average extension and very little vertical break on the pitch, so it remains to be seen how it performs at the highest levels.
