On the plus side, Boyd did record four of his seven outs via the strikeout while issuing just one walk. The Reds scratched out a run in the opening inning as Jeimer Candelario worked a two-out walk and scored on an RBI double by Tyler Stephenson. Boyd then seemed to tire in the third inning, as the Reds had three consecutive one-out hits to push two runs across and chase him from the game. Through his first two Cactus League outings he holds an uninspiring 6.23 ERA and 2.08 WHIP to go with a 6/3 K/BB ratio over 4 1/3 innings.

Merrill put the Padres on the board with a solo blast off Logan Allen in the fourth inning. He then drew a walk in the sixth and scored on a base hit by Jake Cronenworth. The 21-year-old outfielder has started the season 8-for-20 at the dish with one homer while striking out just three times.

Tatis Jr. didn’t have a hit on the day, but still made an impact on the bases. After drawing a walk in the first, he plated a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. The 26-year-old outfielder draw another walk to lead off the seventh and stole second before scoring on an error. Tatis Jr. is up to four steals on the season and has as much fantasy upside as anyone if he can play a full season.

King bounced back nicely in his second start, dominating the Guardians over five scoreless innings. He scattered four baserunners on two hits, a walk, and a hit batter. The 29-year-old right-hander generated 18 whiffs to punch out 11 batters. King is lined up to take on the Athletics in Sacramento on Monday.

Allen dodged trouble early on, stranding five baserunners with the help of three ground ball double plays. But he could only get by for so long without missing any bats. Jackson Merrill took him deep for a solo shot in the fourth inning to put the Padres on the board. Two more runs would score on a walk and two hits in the fifth. Allen struck out his first batter to start the sixth and walked two more before his day was done. The 26-year-old left-hander lines up for a start against the White Sox in Cleveland next Tuesday.

Greene doubled in the first inning and scored Detroit’s first run on a single by Kerry Carpenter. He later took Trent Thornton deep for a solo homer in the eighth to go yard for a second day in a row. The 24-year-old outfielder could be in line to top his career-high 24 homers if he can play a full season.

Following Beau Brieske and Will Vest, Kahnle was summoned in the ninth to close out the game with a three-run lead over the Mariners. He worked around a leadoff hit batter, recording his first save of the season. The 35-year-old right-hander should continue to see some save chances, but it’s looking like a closer-by-committee group in Detroit that includes, Brieske, Vest, and Tyler Holton.

Mize picked up where he left off after a great spring training with one of the best starts of his career. He worked out of trouble in the first inning, stranding two baserunners in scoring position with a strikeout to escape the jam. He didn’t allow another batter to reach until walking two in the sixth. The 27-year-old right-hander induced an impressive 15 swinging strikes on 82 pitches to collect six strikeouts. Mize will take on the Yankees in Detroit on Monday.

Gilbert labored through a 23-pitch first inning, giving up two runs on three hits before striking out his second batter to end the frame. Two more hits brought a third run in to score in the third. The 27-year-old right-hander tossed two more scoreless frames before his day was done after five at 92 pitches, 61 for strikes. Despite the three runs, Gilbert induced an impressive 22 whiffs to strike out at least ten batters for the sixth time in his career. He’s now produced an 18/1 K/BB ratio through two starts. Gilbert is looking for his first win when he takes on the Astros in Seattle on Monday.

The 23-year-old phenom didn’t even start in this one, but still made a major impact off the Angels’ bench. With two outs in the 11th inning he whacked a 1-2 fastball from Chris Roycroft for an RBI single that gave the Angels a 7-6 lead. He then swiped second base and scored on a two-run double by Yoan Moncada. He has been awfully impressive in his limited action thus far, hitting .444 (4-for-9) with a homer, three RBI and three stolen bases. Those in deep leagues should probably start to take notice if they haven’t already done so.

The Angels scored three runs in the top half of the 10th inning to take a commanding lead, with Schanuel smacking his two-run triple off of Ryan Fernandez and scoring on an RBI single off the bat of Jo Adell. The Cardinals rallied for three runs in the home half though, forcing the Angels to win it in the 11th instead. The 23-year-old first baseman is off to a solid start to the 2025 season, hitting .286 (6-for-21) with zero homers, three RBI and a stolen base.
